No Z-Wave after 862 Update

I did the update and I must say I better didn’t.

After the update nearly all of my devices don’t react on any command. All my window coverings disappeared from the scene section and from existing scenes.

@MCV: Please fix that asap!

huwu, Sorry to hear you are having “really bizarre, phantom problems like this”.

I ended up having to reset the ZWave network and rebuild everything from scratch to get it working again today after I installed the update.

Good luck, hope it works out for you.

Mine is responding fine and running everything after the update. I did have to run Configure Node Right Now on some switches. I have no window covering controls so I can’t speak for that.

MCoulter, do you think, then, that a “Heal Network” would help Vera cope better with Z-Wave networks containing “lots” of devices, after an upgrade?

You’ve left me wondering if some devices “fail to work” solely because they haven’t been reporting/polling or being configured properly through the network.

I tried heal network, same thing.
Most of my devices are window coverings. They do not work via scenes and via the dashboard. I found out that the new iPhone UI works well and I can reach these devices. Strange behavior. Hope that MCV helps asap.

LibraSun,
I think you are right about Heal Network. But I figured that was supposed to automatically be happening whenever an upgrade is triggered. I seems to me that running Configure Node Right Now just bumps that node to the front of the priority list. In other words, it seems that given enough time after an upgrade, all of my devices “come around” but I can force them to configure immediately if needed. However, huwu seems to have a different issue than I, being that his devices are disappearing.

Huwu, please go to ‘advanced’, ‘logs’, check ‘Verbose logging’, and then ‘save’. Next, reproduce the problem with the window covering, and after it fails to work, go to advanced, tech support, and fill out a trouble ticket. Put ‘for Aaron’ in the comments, and explain exactly what you clicked and what worked or didn’t work.

I’ll do that but it’s simple as that. The window coverings don’t show up in scenes and scenes with window coverings do not work.
The coverings did work one by one via the iPhone UI - until yesterday evenning.

Update

I’m back to 616 now. Living in the dark is not an option. ;-(

As the 616 restore didn’t work I had to reset chip, network, to reassign all devices and to rebuild all scenes. Having more than 20 devices it’s a Sunday afternoon disport…

If you had submitted a trouble ticket, and turned on the remote assistance, it would have taken < 60 seconds and we would have been able to fix the problem. We do not recommend doing a reset Z-Wave network unless you really know what you’re doing. That resets the Z-Wave module in the dongle. But it doesn’t reset the Z-Wave devices in your home. They will still have their old node id’s. This creates a lot of problems if you don’t find each and every device and reset it.

For example, the first time you setup Vera you pair devices with the dongle and it adds, node id 2 is a light switch, 3 is a thermostat, 4 is a sensor. Now you do a ‘reset zwave network’–so the z-wave network in th dongle is reset. You go back and add the sensor (which is now node 2), and the light switch (which is now node 3), but forget to reset the thermostat. Well the thermostat still thinks it’s node 3 too. So, when Vera tries to configure node 3 both the thermostat and light switch will respond to commands. Both will respond to polls, etc., and when Vera asks this “light switch” what commands it supports, it may respond “set heat setpoint”, etc. That’s why we put that button on an ‘advanced’ page with the notice at top “Most people do not need to use this page.”

I think you are right about Heal Network.

Heal Network is a slow process because Vera rebuilds the routing tables for all your Z-Wave devices one at a time. Vera also does ‘ping’ tests for each device and measures the number of failed responses and the delay. This gives you a really good idea how good the signal is to each device. If you experience problems with some nodes, we strongly recommend that you not reset the network or try to manually change the settings. Before you go to bed, just choose the ‘heal network’ button and let it do it’s thing all night. When you get up in the morning, the Z-Wave network will be optimized, and you’ll have a ‘repair report’ that explains which nodes are working and which aren’t. If you’re not sure about what all the settings mean, submit a trouble ticket and we’ll let you know. Whenever you do a ‘heal network’ the resulting report is sent to our server too so that if you call in support we can discuss the result with you.

Thanks, MCV. But the problem is that the new release is not able to control at least my window coverings. As I also have these zombie devices I’m fully aware of the fact that I have to reset each an every device and rebuild" my" Vera from scratch. What I did.

I saw a lot of progress in the new release and I hope that I can benefit from it soon.
