No Insteon support on Vera Plus

Bought the hype and purchased a Vera Plus. Migration from me Vera3 to the Plus went smoothly until I got to my Insteon devices. Could not get the Vera Plus to recognize the Insteon modem. After several failed attempts to add the modem, I contacted Tech Support. I was told at that time (February 26, 2016) this was a known problem and that development is working on it. After not hearing anything from Tech Support for over a month I called in today to have my Vera3 reset to “Master” so I could retry the migration. At that point I was informed by the Tech Support rep that I would be wasting my time since Insteon currently does not work on the Vera Plus. Of course Vera does not disclose that fact in their advertising, so now I have a device that is basically useless to me as I have several key Insteon devices. If you need Insteon support, don’t buy a Plus until Vera fixes it.

Hi retireditguy. We are sorry for the inconvenience. The Insteon issue WILL be resolved in the next firmware update. It will not be released if the Insteon issue is not resolved. The I know that the QA team is in the process of testing the build, hopefully it will be ready to be released into public beta shortly.

Marc Shenker - Where will the public beta availability be announced? I also have mostly Insteon devices so the VeraPlus is useless to me until then.

You know the answer to that… When it is ready and passed internal testing. They can’t give you a real date, so why ask?

He asked Where not When

Yes, we will post the Beta Test of the next build in the Official Announcements area and on Facebook when it becomes available.

Yup. I’m an idiot that can’t read. Lol. Sorry about that.

I am only a “newbie” as a poster. Have had Vera’s for almost 5 years and have monitored the evolution of Vera - the product and the company. Having spent 30 years in IT, 15+ as a CTO/CIO, I have been as disappointed as many of you with MiCasaVerde/Vera Control’s performance. My customers and my boss would have never accepted the delays and quality issues we all have tolerated. The failure to disclose the lack of Insteon support, however, was enough to bring me out of the shadows.

Right, but the insteon issue is a bug, not something intentionally left out. So where would you have liked them to ‘disclose’ this? There isn’t any single ‘known issues’ list.

Vera clearly has a testing /QA problem if something as significant as non-functional Insteon support is not recognized.

Plus also doesn’t connect to your home wifi to allow remote or portable install like the edge does. But when the edge was released it also was missing this until after a few updates. I’m sure there is a big list of bugs/things not working/left out or what ever you want to call them.

No Vera has had a software update since January now. There was a point where updates were attempting to be made montlhy. Beta Updates were an option also.
Things seem to be getting worse for 2016 so far. Think of what has happened or got fixed for 1st quarter now that that’s over.

My Vera Plus has been sitting on the shelf for several months waiting for the promised “Insteon fix”. I unplugged my Vera3 and upgraded the Vera Plus to the Version 7.0.15 Beta. Insteon now works great but I immediately started losing z-wave nodes. Of course. Vera Ltd has removed the heal process for the z-wave network since it is "no longer needed. I left the Vera Plus online overnight thinking maybe it would recover the lost nodes. This afternoon after finding 6 nodes/devices had dropped off, I unplugged the Vera Plus and reverted to my UI5 Vera3. All of the nodes were immediately back and everything was working as it should. Not sure what’s up with zwave, but there is clearly a problem that needs to be resolved.

Retiredguy, we did not remove the heal function, Z-Wave did, we did not have a choice in it.

When issues like this occur, the best thing to do is to contact Customer Care so they can help sort it out for you.

i often get the same issue with battery powered devices disappearing one by one after adding a mains powered device on my edge.

The only way I’ve found round it is take a backup straight after adding the new device, then each time a device disappears restore to that backup.

After a few times it just seems to work and the devices stop disappearing lol

One of the things that makes Vera ownership “interesting” indeed

Marc
I restored the Plus to factory config and reran the upgrade from my UI5 Vera3. Everything is stable so far, no more disappearing devices. Suspect it may have been an artifact from the initial (failed) conversion done back in March.

Anyone able to tell if insteon works yet with veraplus? amd do you still need to have an insteon hub?

Hi Sean,

We do not support Insteon Cameras yet, but we do support the hidden door sensor. Is that the only device you are having trouble with?
