Newbie question about 3 way switches

Hello all, I am new to the forum and to HA in general but I’m finding my way. I plan on installing my first round of z wave devices this week, with a Vera lite controller.

My question is, I found a good deal on a 3 way switch from Evolve(LSM15) - not a dimmer, just an on/off switch.

I have a 3 way setup for my kitchen lights and I rarely use the second switch. I would like to install this z wave switch as my primary switch and keep the existing “basic” (non z wave) switch as the auxiliary. Can this be done? If not with the evolve switch, are there any out there that will?

If not i’lll either have to disconnect the aux switch altogether or buy the “companion” switches I see advertised.

Thanks in advance. Tis is the first of many questions I Will have

You cannot use the standard switch with the Evolve switch. For the LSM-15 you can use the Evolve LTM-5 companion switch. Yes, you can disconnect the aux switch and use only the LSM-15 by itself.

The only switches that I am aware of that can be used with standard switches are Intermatic/Homesetting switches that have been discontinued and the Aeon or Fibaro Micro switches.

This On/Off switch matrix is helpful in identifying the features of the various switches including the companion/aux/remote switch that is required with each one.

Thank you, z-waver… That is just what I was looking for. I found the single intermatic switch was more pricey than buying the GE kit with both switches included so I ultimately bought the GE switches. I thought the deal on the evolve switch was good and I found pretty much the same deal on the pair of GEs…

i achieved a 3 way configuration with the aeon micro switch , works great
