Newbie Problem with Honeywell Thermostat

I am just getting started with home automation, but I am running into a problem with the Z wave thermostat that I have installed. I installed the thermostat (a Honeywell YTH8320ZW1007) a few weeks ago and connected it to my network. It works well on both a schedule and when I try to control it remotely. The problem that I have noticed is that if the power goes out, when the power comes back on the thermostat prompts me to re-enter the date & time on the thermostat. It does not appear to lose any of the programmed schedule when it loses power. The manual says that when this happens it is time to replace the battery backup. After replacing the battery, I am still having the same problem. The main problem is that there is no way to control the HVAC system until the date and time are reset after a power outage. Honeywell refuses to provide any support since I installed it myself. Has anyone else experienced similar problems or have any idea what I might be missing? I am grateful for any advice.

So we had two of these ordered together. One worked fine, and the other showed the behavior you are seeing. I found that the spring-clip that holds the battery in the failing unit wasn’t maing solid contact with the back of the battery. I removed the battery, bent the clip a smidge so it would clasp the battery a bit tighter, and reinserted the battery. Has been good ever since.

I should have thought of that! Thanks for the help. I will give that a try. I really appreciate it.
