Newbie - Notifications for multiple devices

Hi all:

I’m into night #2 with my mi casa verde setup. After some lengthly decision making I landed on trying out this system for home automation and simple monitoring.

Despite warnings from a few friends about the maturity of this platform, so far it’s seem pretty robust.

This evening I got to tinkering with a door/window sensor, and a motion sensor. I was surprised that I did not see an obvious way to configure a single notification to be sent when either sensor was tripped.

Am I missing something obvious, or do I need to configure a notification for each armed device that is tripped?

Doc for this system does seem to be a little lacking. If there is some obvious reading I should do, any links would be appreciated also.

Thanks!

Welcome to the jungle “beans”.

I too am new to this, going on close to 3 weeks with trying to understand how it all is supposed to work correctly, and it does, more or less. However, I still have not been able to get notifications to work so far from my new system either and am still searching for a solution, since it was one of the major features that attracted me to Vera in the first place.

Reading the widely scattered information is key in beginning to gain a modicum of understanding. The lack of logically organized documentation is definitely one of major fallbacks of working with this stuff… Everything appears to be quite fluid.

Links I could give you galore, but really you need to discover them for yourself, based on what you are facing; and believe me, there are links to be found a plenty! This forum is invaluable I have found, some of the folks here really know this stuff, but like everything else with MCV, you have to search for the nuggets.

Good luck! I’ll be looking out for your continuing posts.

Sorry to be a little sarcastic in my last post…
Like I said before, things are a little fluid at present and there have been 2 platforms - Vera1 and Vera2, several firmware releases for MiOS, several for the GUI, and a couple for Z-Wave. Worse, the documetation that one finds crosses all of these “releases”. My trouble with getting notifications began with my upgrade to the latest firmware, which is on general beta trial prior to full release (1.1.1245).
So what I am getting at is this: some of the folks on this forum will be able to advise you, but you need to be specific as to which Vera you have and what firmware you are running under because the way you set up events, scenes and notifications, and how they are logged, varies somewhat.

Oh, and also what devices you are configuring (Manufacturer and model numbers), as they all have differing capabilities.

1.1.1245 is not a full release, it’s a beta, isn’t it ?

I think that’s what @Soiferheld is saying though: it is on general beta trial before being officially released. It is a Release Candidate.

I believe that is the case. There is no central Notification screen or something where you can select a bunch of sensors that you’d like a notification for.

You've found the documentation: this forum. ;D And have you seen the Wiki? As pointed out by @Soiferheld, information found here on the forum and in the Wiki may be outdated (so check dates, versions etc. or it may not apply).

OTI: That’s what a feared, thanks. Makes sending low battery notifications for each device a pain. You would think you could set that up for all devices.

RE Doc: That’s about what I thought also.

Thanks all.

@beans and @ soiferheld
Not sure where you are at now and whether or not you got it set up.

Maybe this helps?

As for notifications on each and every device… you could try to tie in several events into a scene selecting different devices. That would at least keep notifications for the same trigger together.
