newbie needs help creating outlet scene using sunset

i tried setting up an outlet to turn on 15 mins before sunset and off at 1am. i tried creating a scene and then a schedule but im having no luck. any advise? i will get this sooner or later.

Does your Vera GUI display the correct date and time? If not Go to Setup → Location and set the correct location information.

Do you have a scene that turns the device On? Does it work when you run the scene manually? Make sure this works first.

Next go to the above scene’s Schedules tab and click Add schedule. Give it a name.

Click the day of week radio button and then check the boxes for all days. Then click the drop down list and choose Before sunset. Then click the third(minutes) drop down and choose 15.

Click Done. Verify that the Enabled check box is checked.

Click Confirm Changes. Click Save.

Duplicate these steps for a separate Off scene.

thanks for all the help guys. so the only way of telling what schedule you are working on is prior to opening schedules you have to turn that unit on (or off) or by the name you created?

am i supposed to hit run to start these scenes?

I don’t understand this question.

If the scene is scheduled, it will start at the scheduled start time. There is no need to click anything unless you wish to run it immediately, rather than waiting for the start time.

i mean how do you know what device a scene is associated with? only by the name you give it?

Think of scenes as a macro or a preset. When a scene is triggered, it changes the parameters (on/off, brightess, set temp) of the devices that scene calls. There isn’t a way (that I know of) to look at a device and see which scenes can affect it. Devices aren’t really “members” of scenes, rather they are the recipients of commands that a scene sends.

thanks. i got garage door with door/window switch and my night light operating now. appreciate all the help.
