Newbie - Home monitoing - Hardwire takeover

Hello,
I am just getting started. I am trying to plan my system so that I buy the correct items the first time around. My goal is to do some basic lights/fans on/off (no more than 15 or 20) and have it notify me if any doors or windows are opened. Not so much looking at it as a “security system” more just a notify me of “whats going on in my house system.” At some time in the future I would like to add door locks, front entry motion detection to either turn on landscape lights and/or take a snap shot of who comes to the door. I would also like the ability to use a photo sensor (dusk to dawn) to turn on the landscape lights and to enable triggers, such as a door opening to turn on interior lights. I would also like the ability to know if my irrigation pump is running (I have left the sprinklers running all night before) and to know if I loose power to my grinder pump (I have had problems with the breaker tripping in the past)
My house is pre wired for door and window sensors. Because of this I cant see using the more expensive wireless sensors that require me to change batteries every so often.
Now for my questions.
Would the 2Gig hard wire takeover module work directly with the Vera system, or would I have to integrate a 2gig system into the Vera? Or would there be a better solution for bring the hard wired sensors into the Vera system?
Are the 2Gig smoke detectors directly compatible with Vera? If not is there a smoke detector that is?
Would I be able to do all of this with a Vera Lite or would I need to step up to a Vera 3?
What additional modules would I need other than the standard light switches or outlets?
Are there sensors that would sense the presence of power and thus, if its not reporting, I would know that it would be off?

Thanks for your help,
Andy

Welcome, using the search tool will answer most of your questions. The 2gig security stuff is not compatible with Vera. If you have a look at code.mios.com or in the security sub-forum, you will find answers to what is compatible with Vera. The DSC alarm system is the most popular security system that is supported under Vera and supports most of the functionality. The hardware can be hard for pretty cheap.
