Newbie (Baby Steps)

Just purchased an older home 1992 and would like to get into the HA thing a little. From what I’ve read, the Vera2 is a good way to get started so here I am on these forums.

I’d like to start with something really simple…
Turning off 4 lights and turn 1 light on in the house from a bedroom switch.
To do this is this all I need…

Vera2
5 dimming switches: Leviton VRI06-1LX
1 Scene Controller: RZCS4-1LX

Does this sound right?

Thanks!

Thats sounds about right for the first step.
Step two will be quitting your job to get it all working.

Welcome to your home away from home.

JOD.

Are you sure that is older? Unless I slept in and it is 2040, you have a relatively newer home. I get what you mean though, that it is existing and not in construction. Welcome to the forums.

Thanks for all the replies. This forum gives me some confidence that all this is doable

I’ve read about the problems with dimmers and CFLs/LEDs. If I don’t want to dim CFLs or LEDs and just want them on or off, there are no problems with the Leviton dimmers I’ve selected, correct?

If you only want on and off, the GE/Jasco’s 45609’s work fine for that, and cost a lot less than Leviton, around $41-46 or so.

Here is a link from Zwave products, Homeseer and ASIhome, which are 3 popular places to get stuff.

There are also some recent threads around here about compatible LED lights that are available at Home Depot.
