Newbe, intereseted in temp saving

Interested in a Vera solution, esp to save some energy

First question:

We have a single zone, downstairs, and when its very cold out, the temp upstairs become very hot. Is there a solution where the temp is controlled by one sensor during the day, and another one during the night?

Second question:
What a simple way also to have the system go to an energy saving mode when we leave for the weekend, or a couple of hours during the week (schedule is kind of irregular, so its hard to program with a normal thermostat).

  1. simple switch next to the entrance that activate energy saving mode (but what if we forget to press it)
  2. z-wave lock: does it distinguish if locked from the inside (want to keep the heat, or the outside, want to lower it). Is there a way to change the heat setting if the door remain lock for an hour ?
  3. is there another solution?

If there is a way to make this work, it is a very attractive product for energy saving

you can do pretty much all of that- is it “simple” - you need to read up A LOT around here to learn. Be sure to check out the LUUP area as some of the things you want may require some scripting.
