New Vera replacing UI5 with UI7

Hi All,

appears that my Vera 3 with UI5-1.5.622 has bit the dust. Power light on and LAN blinking but no connectivity to anything. Power cycle fails.

I contacted my trusted supplier and he agrees that it looks pear shaped. I guess it was in his interest but has served me well with advice for the last 3 years or so.

I purchased a new Vera unit which I expect will arrive with UI7. The supplier believes it was an issue in the past but is fairly stable now.

My issue is “how do I move all my devices” over to the new vera. Is there a process for this.

Do I put the new system online and then unpair devices ?

cheers

Your best bet it to put your new Vera online, then unpair all existing devices and re-add them to the new Vera. I don’t believe UI5 backups can be restore dto a UI7 Vera.

What vera did you purchase? If its an EDGE with the z-wave plus then you really should just start from scratch. There is away to get it to port over but only when both are working and it really never works so great either. I always recommend a fresh start after moving two lites UI5 to edges myself.

latest UI7 firmware version accepts UI5 backups! but it only restore scenes, plugins and relevant settings, it won’t restore Z-Wave devices. To migrate Z-Wave devices without removing and adding each node, you’ll need to do a “controller shift” which would require your old UI5 to be online. check the instructions here:

I had exactly the same issue a couple of weeks ago and was forced to move to vera edge ui7 from vera 3 ui5.
I restored my last ui5 backup to find that all the devices are missing. I manged with the help of a friend to upload my old backup on his vera3 unit (he let me have it for the day) to perform the upgrade to ui7 and migration of zwave network to my new vera edge as described in the above link. When doing this I deleted all the plugins from this “recovered upgraded” backup version the restore included zwave network - this is important. when finished I had all my devices (some 60 of them) without the plugins and apps (including my dear Plegs!!!). I then restored my old latest vera3 ui5 backup WITHOUT RESTORING THE ZWAVE NETWORK - and it worked! i have all plugins and apps and updated zwave network BUT generally speaking its a mess - I would have stayed with vera3 ui5 as much as possible. There are many problems - I had to exclude and include 15% of the devices for them to work well (especially battery operated magnets and sensors), I then had to adjust all Plegs when triggers and Properties of those re-included devices were deleted by the Pleg when not found - hope you have a print of your Plegs otherwise you will not know what was deleted… Many plugins to not work well going through getvera servers as I understand ui7 works - could not yet find a solution to the important Ping Sensor on this ui7!!
Good luck with this ordeal!

The above information sounds very true when not doing a fresh install. And if you have to uninclude and reinclude half your devices then just follow previous advice and start from scratch and start with a fresh clean start.

By the way the Ping sensor works great on Edge I use it on two edges for 3 devices each. What problem do you seem to have?

My main objective was to keep some 300 condition lines in 6 Plegs with thousands of inputs… it proved right with relatively small price to pay by installing 15% of the devices but fixing maybe 5% of the code…

I use WOLPlusPing id#2658 - it just does not work. Have also tried Ping Sensor id#1228 - it is not stable. Very slow reaction time in disconnects all the time.

Today they have released FW 1.7.1320 - I’m concern about this.

I copied and pasted from a PLEG status report But could have just ran a backup on PLEG.

I use Ping Sensor id#1228. It works great with Android phones but have had issues with apple devices. What are you pinging?

Thanks for the heads up on the firmware, but a search found nothing and the Release notes also don’t show it. Anymore info on it?

I’m pinging iPhones and many other devices at home - Apple TV, Foscam camera, Samsung TV (line connected not wifi) and HTPC (line connected).
In Settings I have:
Address 127.0.0.1 - Could not change to actual IP as appears in the Advanced Settings (understand this is OK)
Pol Period 15
Device Timeout 0

In the Advanced Settings I have the actual ip and the mac in Capital letters.
Anything that i miss?

As for the new release see attached.

How can I check if there is enough memory? Would definitely don’t want to delete any devices - every device has a roll… I use USB

Do you have ping problems all all devices or more so with Iphones? Like I said I have noticed Iphone ping problems, but not others. I have tablets (samsung) that I ping and Android phones that have no problems. Have you tried the custom files found in the ping sensor thread (I know its like 50pages long)

I have not seen an EDGE with storage issues yet, altho I’m sure it’s possible. I did not see the update, but after manually clicking on firmware I got the same message update that you have now. I would like to see release notes first tho.

The problems are in all platforms and connection types wifi and wire. What are the “custom files”? Where can i find it and how to install?
