New UI7 Firmware

Hi Vera, may I kindly remember you on all the promises you did to this community in this topic:
http://forum.micasaverde.com/index.php/topic,37674.375.html

Clearly, you’re fighting a losing battle. You’ve attempted to demand, cajole, and shame them into providing you the desired resolutions. Despite your efforts, it’s clear that Vera Ltd. is more interested in integrating security/camera features with monthly recurring revenue than they are in fixing existing features.

You’re not wrong for wanting what was promised. You’re not wrong for being angry that your purchase did not deliver what you expected. But at the same time, I can’t help but wonder why you don’t move on and eliminate the frustration. Are you not able to find any other Home Automation controller that satisfies your needs better than Vera?

While Z-Waver is correct in his analysis of why Vera Ltd. is so slow to fix fundamental bugs, giving up on complaining is not a solution either. Vera still has great potential if only they would spend more time getting the basics right and it would save a lot of money from a customer support perspective.

Collectively we should also be lodging our complaints on their Facebook page as they seem to be more sensitive to issues there as it is more widely accessed by potential customers.

You are so right zwaver.

Mark Shenker, Vera ltd. Could you please be so kind to keep us up to date regarding firmware updates?

What would you recommend? I settled on Vera because the community & the extensions seemed so good.

I hope this thread doesn’t go the way like all most lots of other threads go, and then lack the topic of the thread.
The main question is: Vera, when, what, where. And I would like Vera to respond.

So many people have an opinion on Vera as a product and other forummembers.
Most of the time I don’t even take the time or bother about other’s opinion, sometimes I do.

I have Vera for over 5 years now. It is not so easy to migrate away and take:

  1. the Zwave config to another controller
  2. take “apps” away to another platform
  3. take/translate the logic away. (z-waver, here’s your answer).

I started with Vera because they said there were no fees with them, they would support all zwave devices, and a bunch of other promises. As time passed by, one stable factor in Vera is this forum (!). I am surpried it is still named forum.micasaverde.com and that all information is still online. If this forum would not be there anymore, the product would be DEAD. For all promises they made, Vera has a counter argument or excuse…

I am still hoping that Vera will wake up and that they will do what they told and promised. And I will try to keep them to that by just keep on kindly asking them to do so. Because I really like the way it works but regret that the litlle things break up my entire system.

Just a few simple examples:

  • Can’t detect device on numerous devices
  • New devices not supported (old devices do break and expanding is natural)
  • Ghost devices appearing
  • Central platform has lots of connectivity issues
  • Etc.

It would help if Vera would just say: Yes we know, we are working on it. And if they would keep their community up-to-date and up-dated!

I am fed up too. I had big plans on controlling my home with Vera, but all the issues have made me make one conclusion: Vera can’t be trusted. The “can’t detect device”, the ghost devices, the swiches that go on and off by them self for some seconds, the sluggish and confusing gui, the app alert list that can’t be emptied, GeoFencing that never works, … the list goes on with minor and major glitches. And then there’s the support … their standard reply seems to be remove and reinclude devices, a process that never works in the gui.

There is Homegenie, Domoticz, Home Assistant, Pimate, Domotiga… all free… and others. Google is your friend here.

This is a users FORUM … if you want MCV to respond … call support.

Lots of vera employees respond on lots of topics.

But it seems to be random and selective.

Ofcourse support had been requested. Multiple times.

Try posting your question on their facebook page, they are really quick in responding. Seems Mark is hanging out there these days.

After posting negative reviews on Amazon I got lengthy emails from Mark (he specifically said that wasn’t the reason though…). He makes lots of promises of great things to come and explained a few functions that I don’t think I would have ever figured out. But as far as offering any information for when things would actually improve or how they would improve he just dodges the question.
I can’t speak for anyone else, but I’ve stuck around this long because I’ve put so much time into trying to make Vera work well enough to be a help rather than a hindrance that walking away now would make all that time wasted. That is basically the sunk cost fallacy, so I’ll probably jump ship soon unless the lightify bulbs are added.

Why does Sender crap all over Vera and why is she/he still here?

To try to make it better and to “speak up”.

Where I come from helping makes it better, not compaint. ???

It is but a few chips and pcb. Perhaps you can do, yes? ;D

I will not lecture you. I started as eager as you dlare doing now about 5 or 6 years ago. I don’t blame anyone, just want a working product.

Where I come from we deliver what we promise. And what we can’t deliver we honestly explain with a valid reason.

This forum is for all. The happy, the frustrated and the hopeful. We are here to hand a helping hand, to vent, to provide guidance, etc. So I do not wish anyone to crap on anybody or judge anybody. I support Sender for his contributions to the forum and to push anyone and everyone to make Vera and its devices better for everyone. Happy Holidays and God bless to all.
