New Startup user with some questions

Firstly let me say I have been looking for something like this and it looks great.

I currently use Girder which is a home automation system that also uses lua.

I want to look at integration with Girder and then migration. Firstly Girder supports input of events via ip or http or serial or ir an even application. I would like to use http or ip to and from girder to vera.

Is their away for two ip based communications into Vera so I can write an event and data exchange or variable exchange between the two.

Next I have rs232 plugins in girder for JVC projector in lua and my audio processor in lua running in girder so they should be transportable in some way? I would just need to see a serial lua plugin and understand how to make that work.

I use iRule as the touch interface today it is only one way but is simple and will become two way soon.

iRule uses http and or ip for comms. So it can direct http requests to the http event engine in girder and I assume there is http event processing for vera?

I also have itach ir and rs232 wifi controllers from global cache which should work.

Quay for me is to use the z-Wave stuff for lighting and appliance control the other stuff for ir and rs232 is something I would migrate once I understand the system.

Question : Do I need just the server or will I also need the USB stick as well?

Is there any issues with what I have proposed.

Thanks Rick

Welcome @Rickd!

If you are happy with a bit of work then Vera can be interfaced with practically anything via a Plugin. That being said you may wish to check out LUUP forum here http://forum.mios.com/index.php?board=20.0 and direct your question there a bit more specifically about what you want to interface. There are many plugins that do this type of thing already and you may be able to use one as a starting point.

IR control wise for plugins, there are a couple of threads about how to make them for IR devices. I’ll see if I can search and find them.

Regarding Vera, if you buy a V2 then it comes with a built in Zwave dongle.

Thanks so you think i don’t need the usb if i have vera 2 what about remote control hand handle unit makes it easier to setup yes with pairing?

You don’t need the USB dongle as its now internal. For pairing with the V2 you have several options:

[ul][li]Use the supplied battery pack with Vera, and take the whole thing to the new device to include.[/li]
[li]Plug in near your new device with an extension cord and perform the inclusion.[/li]

[li]Use Vera where it is and use “Full Power Inclusion”[/li][/ul]
