New Motion Detector won't work

maybe I’m doing something wrong. Cant get the new motion detector to do anything at all.

I can pair it. Press the button and the stick goes blue. Plug it back into vera. Seems good but the page shows it with a red cog. ARM/Disarm buttons don’t do anything. I don’t see any lights on the detector itself either.

i already tried removing it from the zwave netork and adding it again.

I bought the detector from micasaverde because I believed the sales pitch that it would be preprogrammed and I’d just have to install it. That’s BS. I’m also getting really frustrated at the amount of time and BS i have to go thru for each node. There is NO WAY a non-techie person would get thru this. I have zero confidence in this system.

How are you trying to use the motion sensor?

I have 3 ZIR000 sensors (purchased from MCV). I created 2 scenes per device, 1 for motion detected and the other for the idle event. This allows me to turn a light on/off.

BTW: I’ve been having problems with all 3 sensors since the lastest firmware update. I can no longer poll or configure any of the devices. I assume that is why I have the red cog/gear next to each one. For now, I have set Vera to not to poll or attempt to automatically configure the sensors since it was causing all my devices to fail.

Vera, the motion detector and a lighting module are all in the same room. It’s my computer room where I keep the networked printer. I want the lamp to turn on for a few minutes when someone enters the room.

I have the scene set up but I don’t get far enough to test it. Nothing on the motion detector works. Theres’ no light on the motion detector except when i push the button to activate it while pairing. That works but once the device is in the zwave network, it appears to be dead. it won’t arm, there are no lights flashing ever and it just doesn’t do anything when you enter the room. Plus the red cog that just says “job failed”.

the only part that does seem to work is the battery level report. So i have a red cog plus a green battery

correction/update. the detector does flash RED when I walk in the room now. Still doesn’t kick off the scene that turns on the lightin module but it does appear to be doing something now

Which event type you use for the idle? I don’t see it in the drop-down list. I do see the “sensor is tripped” and “armed sensor is tripped”, which I use to turn the light on. I would like to turn the light off on idle, instead of the standard “after X minutes”.

That’s just the indicator that the device is battery-powered and nothing else. The actual battery level is reported under the “Battery level:” line when you click + sign next to the device.

Create a new scene and add what device you want to turn off under the commands.

Then add an event with the following settings under the event type:

                 A Sensor (door/window/motion/etc.) is tripped
                <your motion sensor device>
The sensor goes idle after being tripped

For the motion detected event, create another new scene that turns on the light/device you want. Then create a new event for that scene. There are two types of events that you can use to trigger the motion detect: armed vs not armed.

If only want the sensor to turn on the light/device when armed, under event type:

  An armed sensor is tripped
  < the motion sensor >

If you don’t use the arm feature (or your sensor doesn’t support), then under event type:

 A sensor (door/window/motion/etc.) is tripped
 < the motion sensor >
 The sensor is tripped

I use the arm feature for motion sensor that I don’t want to turn on lights in the middle of the night. So I have a separate “bed time” scene to disarm the sensors and a “night time” scene to enable them again.

Thanks! No need for such a detailed explanation.
I just missed the fact that “A sensor (d/w/m/e) is tripped” event type also has the idle option. I only use the “An armed sensor is tripped” type and that doesn’t have such an option.

BTW, the question:

If I have “An armed sensor tripped” event turn On the lights, and a regular non-armed sensor goes idle event turn Off the lights, what would happen if the lights were turned manually and the sensor was not armed - would the lights turn off automatically when the sensor goes idle, even if it is not armed?

Yes, it will turn off even though the sensor isn’t armed. I’ve mentioned this to MCV a few months ago, but haven’t seen either a fix or enhancement to change the behavior.
