I’ve got a Vera Lite, a TKB plug in switch and a Secure 321 thermostat, both devices added in Vera and working up close.
The TKB and Thermo are now in a (metal insulated) shed at the end of the garden, so i know i could be pushing the z-wave range at the moment. The TKB is next in line of sight to Vera, and operates from vera in the shed.
Vera won’t update the Thermo though at all. it seems as though no signals are getting to it even though it is a few feet away from the tkb, but further away from Vera.
The TKB is Device no 11, ID 4
The Thermo is Device no 9, ID 2
I have tried updating each neighbours in vera but no joy.
I have tried manually entering “9” as a neighbour to the TKB, and “11” as neighbour to the thermo, but no joy.
Yes, you cannot (should not) alter the neighbor field. It and many other fields are populated automatically. If Vera did allow you to alter these fields, I would recommend that you exclude the devices to reset them and start over.
Understand that you may not be able to achieve your goal at all due to distance and the metal shielding blocking the signal. That said, my reading of your post leads me to believe that the TKB is inside the shed with the thermostat, please correct me if I am wrong.
If my assumptions thus far are correct, then you might get the thermostat to work by routing through the TKB. Understand that the thermostat is a battery operated device and its learning and configuration will not be immediate. It may require an overnight heal to determine the proper routes and configuration. So make sure you haven’t disabled automatic heals. Also, if the thermostat has a way of forcing it to stay awake for configuration, this will speed the process.
Yes, the TKB is inside the shed, by the window nearest the Vera, but the thermostat is further inside the room so unlikely to get through to vera direct.
I’ll remove the values i have put in the devices. I was hoping that the TKB would repeat for the thermostat, but it’s been set up for about a week now and no joy.
I did not mean remove the values, that’s just further damage. I meant exclude the TKB and the thermostat and then re-include them. Begin again.
If, after an over night heal, you still can’t reach the thermostat, then post the content of the Autoroute fields for both devices. Also include the device IDs again as these will change when you exclude/include.
Sorry to keep chirping on about this, but i’m still struggling.
I have removed the devices fully from vera and started from scratch, without messing around with the neighbours field. All the devices are working properly and showing in vera. I have 3 TKBs around the room now, all working directly in vera, so have signal.
The thermostat though only works right up close to the window closest to the Vera (so probably getting a direct signal).
I have left it for a few days to pick up neighbours itself, but moving it to where it should be placed for it to work as thermostat, moves it out signal again.
Why is it not picking up the signal repeats from the TKBs? What can i do?
i’ve done a few heals, but sill nothing. I’ve got 3 thermostats in there now to test if it’s a duff device, but not looking good.
The TKBs should do repeating. There are two TZ88’s and a dimmer too, anything to get some signal to these thermostats.
Thanks for the advice, anything else i can try?
Strange that the switches all work ok and have 5 stars on a heal, but the thermos have nothing.
Hmmm, doesn’t fix the problem but the only other thing I can recommend is installing external antenna on your Vera. Haven’t done it but threads on here shows it works well at extending the range and only costs 5-10.00 at most. Do a search on it.
I added an external antenna to my Vera Lite following the advice in another post. It’s made a huge difference in solving a similar problem. Highly recommended. I’ve also had success with battery devices by waking while the Heal is running.
