Need your advice again

i want to buy a camera for the vera edge, do you recommend to go with a wireless cam or non wireless?

a link for amazon or ebay for a recommended camera will be nice.

Tnx

For a small # of cameras it does not matter … (wired or wireless)

A wireless one needs remote power …
A wired one can use POE (Power over Ethernet) so you only have to run a CAT cable.
(Depending if the camera supports POE directly you may need a POE adapter on both ends)

If you have a lot of wireless cameras … they can eat up the Wifi bandwidth quickly … so I would go with wired.

If I had to buy a camera today I would likely get the Foscam FI9826

Adding to @RichardTSchaefer’s comment, the camera choice is going to depend on your requirements. Things like resolution, indoor/outdoor, infrared, zoom, pan/tilt, size, and more all play into the decision. Many people here like the Foscams like @RichardTSchaefer recommended for indoor use.

If you look at this less expensive 720p version, the Foscam FI9821W V2 Megapixel HD 1280 x 720p H.264 Wireless/Wired Pan/Tilt IP Camera with IR-Cut Filter - 26ft Night Vision, you might realize why it is a popular choice. It offers wired and wireless, pan/tilt/zoom, 720p HD, IR night vision, audio interface and lots more for a very cheap price, relatively speaking. It’s a good choice for a few cameras around the inside of the house.

But, if your goal was perimeter security, you might instead aim for something like the Dahua IPC-HFW4300S 3MP Weatherproof Hi Def IP Security Camera and a dedicated DVR a PC based DVR like Blue Iris DVR Software - Full Version Supports Up to 64 IP Cameras

Tnx guys you helped a lot.
i"ll go with the Foscam. but i just forgot to ask you if the Foscam support the blue iris?

They covered it well, but having 6 foscams (FI9821w v2’s and 8910) I would one not buy another one or use them on wireless.

They were used wireless when I first started but they would drop off and have to be rebooted again manually from the camera to get them backonline. This was a problem when I was away and I couldn’t view them.

Power cable was always a problem. Where I wanted them never had a power plug close by or easy to hide the wire. If I mounted them on the celing I could drill into the attic but with only 1 or 2 plugs in the attic the cord was too short. Foscams use low voltage like 5v and you couldn’t extend the low voltage side more then 10ft without power drop being a problem. So that ment running high voltage extension cords across the attic or running romex and outlet boxes near the cameras (not worth the time or cost of copper romex and such)

So my current foscams are now wired not wireless and I had to deal with power issues and the IR’s on every one of them have half of them not working, so night vision is no longer good. Some of them the ir cut off filter doesn’t work so the picture is red when night vision kicks on.

Anyways after all of this I now use Hikvison’s with POE and run one cat5 wire as long as I want with now issue. Cameras cost about the same without pan and tilt and speaker but are alot better.

I would read the foscam reviews and have an understanding before you buy. They have alot of features for a 100.00 price tag but I would rather cut out a few features you won’t actually use, spend the same and get a better camera.

Blue Iris supports almost any ip camera. All foscams are included in that.

I think a lot of us bought an initial Foscam as part of the HA project, and likely still have it, but since went on to better cameras and real DVR software. I don’t even have my cameras as Vera devices any longer, although I do send some HTTP from Vera to adjust pan/tilt/zoom based on Alarm State…

any amazon link for the Hikvison ?

Depends on where they are going. You looking for domes, bullet, indoor or outdoor? You never really stated your use or mounting. Is audio required? Any outdoor can be use indoor. MP is higher, picture is better, outdoor cameras are full metal housings. The indoor is plastic.

I have many of both of these. Right now the dome seems to be a bit high on amazon I pay around 110 for either normally from a place like amazon with prime or 100 from other places like ebay.

Something like this if you required audio.
