Need parts help - fast

The wife is itching to get a security system installed, but all the contract-based companies around me are far too expensive (anywhere from $500-1000 up front plus $35-60/month). I already have a Vera Edge set up for lights, thermostat, etc., but I need to add a security system easy, fast, and cheap.

I know I need the EVL-3, but I’m pretty clueless about the rest. I have 19 contact points to start (ground accessible doors/windows - needs to be wireless), but I may need to add more stuff as time goes on (should I get the PC1832 or PC1864?). I’m not going to use any motion sensors at first…I’ll add them later if I can find a compatible wireless pet-immune unit. I prefer to use an iPad (wall mounted) as a keypad, but I don’t know if I can set up a system without a traditional wired keypad to start.

Can somebody please point me in the right direction?

Both the PC1832 and PC1864 have 8 built in wired zones. To add additional wired zones, you’ll need to add PC5108 zone expanders for each additional 8 wired zones. The PC1832 supports a maximum of 32 wired zones (8 onboard, plus 3 zone expanders). The PC1864 supports a maximum of 64 wired zones (8 onboard, plus 7 zone expanders).

If you’re planning to mostly do wireless zones, I’d go with the PC1832. You’ll need wireless receiver to communicate with the wireless sensors. The RFK5500 keypad will give you a keypad and a wireless receiver in one device.

Thanks. Also, is anyone using the new EVL-4? I know the plugin currently only says it supports the EVL-3, so I’m hoping support for the EVL-4 is coming soon…I’d prefer to get the 4, but not if it’s not going to be supported.

Yes, the EVL4 is supported.

Woot! Thanks!
