Connected it to my Vera and went into setting it up. It didn’t instantly recognize it as a new device so I went into “Advanced Settings” and then “Devices” and “Add Devices”. Click “Add” on “Add IR device” and get this:
Remember: No matter what universal remote control you use, they are sometimes tricky to setup. If you need assistance, contact Tech Support.
Click OK
Use infrared transmitter: – Please select –
I select “#15 USB-UIRT ()”
I’m then presented with 3 choices:
Auto Learn
Guided setup
Manual setup
To make things easy, I initially chose “Guided setup”. This brought up a progress window stating “Please wait” and it never goes away.
I then checked out “Manual setup”, but I have no idea what code numbers I need to use.
Finally I went into “Auto Learn”. It has percentage indicators for Quality and Progress and tells you to point a remote at the USB-UIRT and press “play”, “rewind”, “power” or “volume” button. I do that and the red light on the USB-UIRT starts blinking, but the Quality and Progress percentages never change and I can’t move on.
What do I need to do to get this thing to control my components?
I have setup my USB-UIRT a number of times when doing testing, never received those errors. I just now added some new devices, one for X10 and one for an RCA TV. For the RCA TV I chose guided setup, worked fine, then I did a second one for the same RCA TV but learned it in with auto learn. Both worked fine for me. X10 works great as well using an IR-X10 converter, but Vera controls it just fine.
Has to be your setup, something must be wrong so hopefully MCV will help you all get it sorted out. I just wanted you to know the IR does work with USB-UIRT. One note, when you get it working, your control and setup of the newly added IR devices is done through the “AV Gear” tab. You will get all your IR devices added to a list there.
Good luck on the tech support, let us know how it turns out for you.
I’m guessing you are still running UI6 and that this is why you are having issues.
I understand the want and need to have the ‘latest and greatest’ but if you check out these forums, UI6 is the latest, but far from the greatest. It is essentially a Beta release and is riddled with device support issues.
I have not been around long, but it sounds like MCV had the same issues going from UI4 to UI5, which led to the vast majority of ‘veterans’ to stick with UI5 until all the wrinkles are ironed out. This is why I chose to revert back to UI5 the minute I plugged in my unit.
As @haworld attested to, his USB-UIRT works fine and if I was a gambler, I would bet he is running UI5.
My problem was when I loaded the UI5 firmware I ended up with an unuseable device.
I had to login & find unassigned device to get the UI6 upgrade option back.
I might have used a wrong firmware. Is there UI5 dedicated for Australia or are they all the same?
It he process of assigning the device is different from UI5 to UI6 and I believe that even the MCV/Vera servers are different for each due to the fact that UI6 requires a special character in your password and UI5 doesn’t allow it.
Once you download UI5, everything you have set up on UI6 is non-functional. You will need to start from scratch on UI5.
Go to cp.mios.com and create a new user account. I used the same user account name I had on UI6, which also lends to the notion that these UI’s use different servers. Once you have that created, it will ask you to assign your device again. Once you do that, it will be fully functional with UI5. You should be able to access your unit locally with the IP and remotely via cp.mios.com
Has anyone had any joy with this yet.
I did install UI5 & couldn’t get it to work although I did get 1 step further.
Since then I have reverted back to UI6 & waiting on support which is proving to be a lot slower than I would have hoped
Does anyone know of instructions to get the USB to Serial device working & sending commands
Cheers
