Need help getting started with PLEG

I have been using Vera now for about 9 months and so far I’m pleased with what I have been able to do with just simple scenes. But it’s clear to me that I need more complexity in my scenes to have them really do what I need. I have installed the PLEG plugins and have tried half assed attempted to use it with zero success. I have also attempted to read all the Sticky threads but my head is spinning. I’m pretty technical and learn fast but I think I need simple step by step instructions on how to build my first PLEG so I can get the basic knowledge in my head.

My first use for PLEG would be replacing a scene I have running in my living room where a single motion sensor turns on two lamps when tripped. I’m using the “is night” LUUP code to stop it from executing during the day, and that’s working fine. What I lack is the ability to have the lights turn back off if there is no continued movement in the room for XX seconds. I’m sure that’s a VERY simple PLEG use but it’s still evading me. Can someone point me to a post that defines how to do something like this OR provide me with a step by step.

Thanks so much in advance for the help. I’m sure once I get the PLEG basics figured out I will be off and running.

There is a thread with a PDF called “pleg basics” that’s the only or best directions to start with.

The thread with the PDF is: http://forum.micasaverde.com/index.php/topic,21603.0.html

In fact, the example with your situation is the very first one on page 24.

Also after you get it started post your “Status” report in PDF when asking for help and it makes it very easy for someone to help you with your conditions or errors.

Without that info and with such a broad question of something like “how do I do this” people tend to shy away from really giving you the help you need.

There are also some youtube videos that can be very helpful. Just google PLEG.

Point understood, just struggling to even get to a point where I would even have a status report to share with you all. I’m ultra novice at this point but eager to get started. I began building the example on page 24 of the PDF but got stalled by the actions section. I would almost pay someone to give me a class on PLEG.

UI5 and UI7 have different user interfaces … but the concepts are exactly the same.

In UI7 … noobies will want to make sure and use the “Graphical Control” in the actions editor as opposed to the “Advanced” mode.

Thanks for that advise however in UI7 I don’t see a toggle for “Graphical Control” at all…! Must be called something else, I know you guys know this stuff cold and clearly understand it but I’m at the complete other end of that learning curve.

Like I previously said, I think you need to delete all you PLEG devices, uninstall the PLEG plugin, and reinstall. I had the same issue when coming from UI5 that things looked incorrect and like Richard said, the UI5 and UI7 versions are different. You probably carried over the UI5 version. When you uninstall and then reinstall it will download the UI7 version.

It’s called “Control View” in the tab where you edit the actions for a condition.

You must UPGRADE the plugins … Have you reviewed the U page in the forum ?

And the UI7 specifics at the end:
