I need some help from a more experienced (that’s not saying much compared to me) Vera Pro. I’ve got around 20 Leviton and GE Light Switches through my house, a couple locks, some cameras, and a couple other various Z Wave items.
A couple weeks ago all of my lights decided to stop working. I tried various fixes (network healing, firmware update, time away from the system) before finally raising the white flag and reset the Z wave network. At the time I upgraded to the latest beta firmware and z-wave version (3.20).
I slowly added things back in until I finally had everything back up and working again. After enjoying my hard work for a couple of weeks and starting to brag that things were stable…it happened again!
I tried to do another heal network but no luck. I tried to look through all of my settings. The only semi odd things that stands out is my “Role” on the Z-Wave Options tab says “Master SIS:NO PRI:YES”
When I reset my network originally, I thought that was set to “Master SIS:YES PRI:YES”
I’m not sure if I’ve provided enough detail to even begin to have some of the experts assist with troubleshooting…but this is pretty frustrating if I’m going to have to deal with this every couple of weeks.
I’m not sure what you mean by “stopped working” does that mean that they wouldnt respond to commands from Vera or that vera wouldn’t send commands or? I’ll assume since you are using 3.20 that you read the setup and either reset your network after installation or used the hack, as far as “Master SIS:NO PRI:YES” that is normal on 3.20 and it will always be that way, in prev versions both can be yes, from 3.20 on there can no longer be a secondary inclusion controller, sorry for your frustration, I have not heard of this exact set of symptoms before, post more info about what “stopped working” and hopefully someone can help
From the dashboard, none of the lights will respond to commands (with one exception)
By not working, I mean things like:
Inaccurate reporting of on and off status of the light
When I click “on” or “off” I get a “Transmit Failed on Code:1” status
All the lights say “Unable to get any information on node” on the bottom of each device in red highlight
Oddly enough only one device responds. A Leviton plug-in On/Off device nearby the Vera 2.
By default MiOS should automatically configure devices
Use Z-Wave version 3.20 instead of 2.78 IMPORTANT: Read this first
Use MiOS routing instead of Z-Wave (requires 4.5)
Poll nodes learn more
Unchecked:
Limit neighbors to Z-Wave discovery (requries MiOS routing)
Other Details from the options page:
Version 3.20 L:1
House/Node
Role Master SIS:NO PRI:YES
Last update N/A
Last dongle backup 25-MAR-2011 12:26
Number of seconds to wait to start polling 20
Only poll a node if the Z-Wave network is idle at least 10 seconds.
Poll a node every 60 seconds.
Unless specified otherwise, poll each node at most once every 30 seconds.
@Primetime, when you updated to the Zwave firmware did you reset the Zwave network to default after updating to the new 3.20 branch, or before doing this?
My suspicion is that you may have done this before upgrading! Either way, you may want to go to the advanced tab of the Zwave Device, and click the go button next to where it says “Hack to convert 2.78 to 3.20 IMPORTANT: Read this first” After you get a message saying its completed (a couple of mins IIRC) then perform a heal.
I gave your instructions a tried and it completed the heal. Still no luck. All the devices still says “Device Failed to configure” on all of them. The cameras still work fine. But all z-wave modules aren’t functioning. When I individually go into a device and do a poll node, or configure node…it says success. But then it says “Node not configured” in the bottom in red when I’m done.
I don’t see a Manual routing as an option on the “Options” tab of the Z Wave Device.
Here are the options and current check/uncheck status I see:
(Check) By default MiOS should automatically configure devices
(Check) Use Z-Wave version 3.20 instead of 2.78 IMPORTANT: Read this first
(Check)Use MiOS routing instead of Z-Wave (requires 4.5)
(Uncheck) Limit neighbors to Z-Wave discovery (requries MiOS routing)
(Check) Poll nodes learn more
Is the Manual routing on another screen, or is something missing from my screen (maybe a firmware defect??)
In either event, you need to (Check) Limit neighbors to Z-Wave discovery (requries MiOS routing)
and run a heal. See if that works for you.
Good question about where the manual routing check box is. I see the box to input the route for each device, but dont see the check box to enable it. Maybe MCV removed it ??? (it didnt work anyway)…Added to my to-do list to find out.
Personally I (uncheck) the configure devices when I run my heal.
BUT…In your case, your devices are not configured so leave it as is so Vera configures them.
Go ahead and (check) the “Only update MiOS routing (overrides other settings)” box.
Tried that and still no luck. I was watching the heal information in the upper right hand corner. As it was healing I noticed it cycling through all the Nodes repeating the same information.
It kept saying “0 good routes out of 0” and then it would move onto the next node saying the same thing. Does this basically mean their are no pathways for my nodes/devices to communication back to the Vera?
Am I going to be stuck resetting my Z wave network again to fix this? Ugh!
Seeing “0 good routes out of 0” means nothng. “0 good routes out of 5” on the other hand would not be a good sign. But you wont see the results until it completes and you read the heal report.
After spending an entire day resetting the vera to factory defaults, excluded and re-included every device, I ran “repair network” several times and everything looked OK. One last network heal (3 of 3) produced similar results from what is described from primetime. I never had the majority of the nodes fail to configure and they don’t seem to be capable of manually being configured. Any ideas what causes this?
Don
UPDATE: Three more network repairs and Vera has fixed the configuration problems. All devices have now configured correctly. No sure that happened but it appear to be solved. Wondering if there was some environmental problem?? I noticed when the A/C comes on configuring nodes goes into the tank!! Anyone else see this problem??
Since this Vera is at rental property 150 miles away fixes in person can be difficult (especially when that’s what I just did yesterday ==> 300 miles round trip to re-configure vera. Wasn’t looking forward to ANOTHER vera trip).
Also, I did a Vera backup prior to running a network repair. What would be the results if I loaded the backup with “restore dongle” option? Would Vera revert to the configuration before the unconfigured devices?
I dont have any personal experience with this, but this might help as a reference?
The Z-Wave chip inside the black dongle maintains the master list of all the other Z-Wave devices that you have included into your Z-Wave network. Vera also maintains its own database with a list of devices, and Vera's database has a lot more detail, such as the name of the device, the room that it's in and so on. Vera continually syncs its database with the master list of devices in the Z-Wave dongle. This is why you can remove the dongle, carry it around to pair and unpair devices devices, and when you reconnect the dongle to Vera, Vera will show any new or removed devices. If you insert a new dongle in Vera, then all your devices will disappear since the new dongle doesn't have any devices paired to it and so Vera deletes the ones in its database.
Starting with Luup version 1.0.880 and higher, Vera is able to backup not only Vera’s database, but also the data stored in the dongle. Vera also has the ability to restore, or clone, this backup into another dongle.
For example, if you receive a replacement dongle, you can restore a backup of your old dongle’s data to the new dongle so you don’t have to rebuild your network.
I am having the exact same problem. Most of my devices will not configure and when commands are sent they sometimes work but there is no acknowledgement returned. Anyone figure this out?
