Motorizing Blinds for as Cheap as Possible (@shady, et al)

Hi,

I just moved into a new condo and I am very cheap. I want to motorize some of my blinds, but I’d rather not spend hundreds of dollars per blind to do it. Also, I only really care about tilt control. My blinds are 2" wood, 29" x 48" (and one big one 86" x 48").

It seems to me that tubular motors are dirt cheap on ebay and Alibaba. That being said, what specs should I be looking for in a motor? Can I put more than one motor on a controller or do they only make single controllers? I’d prefer z-wave, but I am also looking into building some XBee controllers since that seems like it would be 1/3 the cost if not less.

Also - I couldn’t find anything regarding vertical blind treatments. Is there a preferred mechanism to open/close (not just tilt)?
