What’s the main difference between a motion sensor and an occupancy sensor
And in which applications are each best suited for?
I’m not sure if there is really an official difference or if its all just how different people see it.
Occupancy, usually controls a load, has a timer of some sort to keep the load on or tripped for a specific time to show someone is still int hat room, usually more sensitive but adjustable anyways.
Motion, just detects motion.
VERA is probley going to handle your timer and load so For your purpose it shouldn’t matter which you use as both will work.
My guess would be that it has to do with sensitivity (and thus the technology and cost involved of the detection). I put our Z-Wave motion sensors in bypass when watching tv, being on the computer, or during dinner time (as they would otherwise ‘untrip’ due to lack of motion while occupying the room).
