More Wayne Dalton WDHA-12 Gateway

New guy here, getting into Home Automation and want to have Vera controlling door locks, thermostats, Lights, security cameras, and security system before I deploy to Afghanistan.

Got the Vera 2, A Kwikset Lock to get started, a couple of cams, and a WDHA-12 Gateway.

Everything is working great except the WDHA-12. Both my wife and I have Homelink remotes in our cars and I would like to be able to assign button #2 to an unlock scene controlling my kwikset and button #3 to a lock scene controlling my kwikset.

Followed the wiki to set up the WDHA-12, the screenshots were a bit dated but I have it set up and call it HomeLink controller. I have two scenes controlling the kwikset. One to unlock and the other to lock. I can run these from the Vera dashboard but pressing the corresponding buttons on the WDHA-12 have no effect at all.

The WDHA-12 does not seem to respond to communication from the Vera even though the Vera was able to add it as a device. Healing the network gives me a “Unable to get any information on node” message and if I click the device I get a “Transmit failed with code: 1”. The WDHA-12 is about 15 feet from the vera.

Sorry the original message was very incomplete. I inadvertantly got jammed up against the time and had to go.

Should be possible to get that going; I currently have that set up similarly.

The not being able to communicate with the WDHA-12 I believe is ‘normal’.

Could you try re-including the WDHA-12 the same way you did it originally? Vera should say she detected an existing node.

For debug purposes, if possible, you could assign a light to one of the buttons, preferably close to Vera and your computer, so you can test it all from one spot. You can test without the WDHA-12 being plugged in, but you’d first have to press a button to wake it up and then quickly the button you want to test.

I concur, and leave it where it is when you re-add it, also this device is basically a remote/scene controller so the communication would be somewhat one way, the device triggering a scene on Vera, there is nothing on the UI to control on this device. I’m curious what you clicked to get the “Transmit failed” message?

JOD.

When I added the gateway I called it HomeLink Gateway. I have a kwikset door lock and two scenes. One to unlock and the other to lock the kwikset. These scenes are to be activated by the gateway.

I clicked on the gateway device added by Vera. It does make sense that the comm is only one way and that the gateway would not respond to a command from the Vera. I suppose there is no need for two way comm since it is to be activated by a remote and in turn activate a scene on the Vera.

If I press a button on the gateway shouldn’t I see something happen with the device on the dashboard?

Right, it does not seem to affect the operation of the device (for the reasons stated), but for a powered device it would be nice if it were always ‘online’, so it can be queried for administrative purposes (is it alive, which are the neighbors, reconfiguration, etc.).

If I press a button on the gateway shouldn't I see something happen with the device on the dashboard?
Yep, you typically would see Vera sending the command to the lock.

Have you tried re-including it, and double-checked the events in each scene to make sure they are set up to trigger on the gateway buttons?

I set one up a few days ago, after you set it up to become a “secondary”, and add it, it downloads your zwave configuration, it gets added as a scene controller, then I setup a scene to use “button 1” of the device to turn on my garage lights, and button 2 to turn them off. configured my “homelink” in the car to it, and it just works… button 1 turns on the lights, and button 2 turns them off, as expected.

it doesn’t really do much more than this. not sure what else you are expecting of the device, its an RF bridge (from homelink) to Zwave for running up to 3 scenses, thats it.

in my case the garage lights are 2 GE on/off switches, each controlling (4) 80W flurescent lights. they both go on and off with the scene.

Glad you got your’s working. All I really expect is to have button #2 activate a scene that unlocks my kitchen door to the garage and button #3 activate a scene that Locks the kitchen door to the garage. Be nice to have button #1 toggle the condition of the door lock, but that might be problematic in the long run.

Did you add this as a battery operated handheld remote and scene controller?
Did you add the device to remote MiOS’s network, letting MiOS be the primary controller?

I have attached some screenshots. Maybe I have set something up wrong.

@jluvs2ride,
That looks good. Have you had a chance to re-include the gateway, so Vera gets a second chance at configuring it?

I will re-include the gateway tonight when I get home and post the results. Thanks.

All right. Spent most of the morning messing with this thing. Extremely frustrating.

  1. I added it a second time. No success
  2. I removed it and to be on the safe side I removed it again.
  3. I added it back, and configured the scenes
    4 I added it again

I did variations of the above several times. The vera always sees the device and adds it, I have button 2 configured to activate an unlock scene and button 3 to activate a lock scene. Regardless of what I have done, nothing occurs when any button is pressed.

I have concluded I am missing some detail or I have a defective unit.

When you press a button on the gateway (coresponding to a configured scene on Vera) do you see the scene fire within the UI (blue pending or green completed?)

JOD.

You know I have been trying this and trying that. Testing every step with he buttons on the gateway with no success. Gave up and been out all day. Just for the heck of it just tried and now both buttons working as desired.

Ok, the next step is to associate the remotes with the gateway. So, I have two cars with homelink controls and a small pocket remote I use with my motorcycle.

Can all three devices be associated with the gateway?

I think it can handle up to 8 remotes…

Ok, I am impressed now that it is working.

On both cars I have button #2 set to activate a scene that unlcks my kitchen door. Button #3 Activates a scene that Locks the door.

Next I want to add some modules that will turn on a light when the door is unlocked and turn off a light when it is locked.

I guess thats not available for EU frequencies huh?

Its kind of an old, somewhat discontinued product, Wayne Dalton doesn’t make much new for Zwave devices these days.

Thanks mitch… but still, its available and works.
There are much much less devices that support EU frequencies.
Apart from that, availability is scarse…

What we can get is mostly Danfoss, Merten, Duewi, ACT home pro
No locks… Thermostats gets better but still not real easy replacements for frequently used simple relay theromostats (mostly honeywell chronotherm)

No Z-wave powerstrips, no remotes (that I could find)… the list goes on…

So if anyone finds some good stuff that supports EU frequencies, i dont mind buying from US or any other country…

no remotes (that I could find)
