MonoPrice ZWave Smoke detector $15.75 after code AUG10 + shipping

Monoprice has marked down their Zwave smoke detector to $17.50. Apply code AUG10 for another 10% off.

I just ordered 2 to complement my 2 First Alert ZCombo units.

Although they have no logo, they look very similar to the Everspring Z-Wave Smoke Detector. Model EVS-SF813-2-US

I have no use for them but, at that price, I want to buy two anyway.

Same here. Ordered two for testing as I believe these are the Everspring model which is what GetVera sells in their store.

My First Alert ones cover the living area and garage. These will provide additional coverage for my home office and kitchen area. In addition to the conventional detectors already installed. I’ve seen what a house fire can do so I make sure there is a detector in every room with a working battery (checked every 3 months). The z-wave ones will give me the addition of being notified of an issue when not at home. A quick glance at the camera’s is all I need to call the FD and haul arse home to save my dogs.

Well worth the just shy of $40 for 2 of these.

Many thanks BOFH!

Just ordered a couple as well, plus a couple motion/temperature sensors.

Use the iDoorcontact plugin with those PIR ones to get the temp sensors to show on Vera. For future reference, the PIR and the door/window ones go on sale for between $20 and $25 every couple of months. Just in case you need more.

Thanks for the tip - you’ve just saved me a few iterations of configuration trial and error

Thanks for the tip, Ijust ordered some … the AUG10 promo paid for the shipping

I finally got tired of waiting for proper support for the First Alert units. I’ll replace them with these and either sell them on eBay or take them to Goodwill.

If you are chucking them out to Goodwill, I’ll cover the shipping and take them off your hands.

if I decide not to try flogging them on eBay i’ll let you know …

Crap - wish I would’ve noticed this when this was happening! Back up to retail price of $49.95 now >:(

I just received my pair and a buddy of mine commented they looked exactly like his SimpliSafe ones. Which may very well be the unit. If so, their detection method is photo-electric. The manual and the SimpliSafe product page.

Vera 3 UI7.10 had no issues including it and sees it as a Vision model ZS6101 photo-electric smoke sensor.

Just received my order and paired one with Vera UI5 without a hitch. They show in SETTINGS as "Vision ZS6101. They don’t seem to be as loud as some detectors I’ve used over the years but probably loud enough.

Maybe you guys can help. I picked up a few of these smoke detectors. I added them as “Generic devices.” The Vera found them to be smoke detectors and added them. They seemed to work fine. Well, I went to test them. I pressed the test button, it beeped and I got a message. Good deal. Problem is, now they seem to be stuck “tripped” on my dashboard. I can’t figure out how to un-trip them. Any advice is much appreciated.

Thank you.

Could anyone please point me in the right direction for adding this smoke detector to UI5? I followed the directions (hold the program switch for 1 sec) for inclusion that came with the detector and a device was added, however it was added as an A/V device with no controls or status (aside from the battery level indicator), so i’m assuming this is not correct. I’ve tried excluding the detector and re-including it, only to get the same results.
I cant seem to find much support for this with micasaverde. Any help is appreciated- thank you!

I wish I could help you but I added seven of them to my system last week and they added without a hitch. When they first install they look like A/V devices. After restarting Vera and refreshing the UI it shows waiting for wakeup. Hitting the Test button once or twice caused them to begin configuring and when Vera restarted again they showed as smoke detectors with all the correct information.

Be sure these detectors actually work. Some of the Eversprings were reported to not alarm on smoke. I noticed Vera stopped selling Everspring smoke detectors.
I have two eversprings. But I switched to first alert.
Don’t trust the test button alone to determine proper functioning.

These are not Everspring but Vision model ZS6101 units. Actually the same ones that Getvera sells in their store.

For those of you that have tested your alarms, how did you get them to no longer display as “tripped.” Mine are all stuck in that status now.

Not trying to hijack this thread, but reading the comments got me thinking. My home has 8 existing standard smoke detectors (one in every room, hallways, and main areas). They are both battery and A/C powered, and they have a third wire that interconnects all of them. Thus, if one goes off, they all sound. I recently had one fail, and replaced it with this equivalent Kiddie model.

Replacing all eight with stand-alone z-wave-based units would be costly (both in terms of time and dollars). Has anyone ever considered tying into that third cable to determine viability to connect it to a dry-contact z-wave switch like the REMOT-ZFM-80.

EDITED TO ADD:

After some further consideration, I started a new thread to avoid the hijack

Vera still sells smoke detectors? I can’t find it on their site.

If the vision looks like an everspring, it is an everspring. Eversprings primary business is OEM. They don’t want to sell directly. The photo of the vision is that of the everspring detector.
