Not quite working properly but its a good start by the guys!! They will be releasing it to the Samsung app store in the next couple months.
Where is that feed coming from? Is it a different portal?
No its actually an app the resides on the Blueray player. It communicates with Vera via ethernet. From what I am told the app is done in Flash light.
Flash light- does that mean it might be portable to chumby/dash/insignia?
Yup!!!
Woot!!
On the Blue-Ray huh, I guess I was too busy hawking shades at CEDIA to have asked and I was sitting behind the thing for four days?!?!?
I was just pricing Samsungs at Costco today, but it looks like I’m going to have to get the Samsung Blu-Ray too if I want home control overlaid on my TV (this is getting expensive).
If they could add camera support that is closer to what Panasonic has between their TVs and IP Cameras to display multiple cameras at once, it would make it easier to sell to the wife, for me at least. Right now it is just a single view at a time like in Vera and still very cool.
I’d be willing to bet that the apps on their blu-ray players may also work on their newer TV’s that support their app store.

It should. I have a new samsung bluray player as well as a samsung tv and the apps are pretty much the same for both. Now if only we could get an app for windows media center…
Yeah the app works on any TV that supports Internet@TV. In my case I have a C5000 series which has ethernet but does not support Internet@TV so I bought the BD-C6800 which supports it. FYI NEWEGG has the player for $201 which is the cheapest I have seen it.
That looks awesome, got plans for a new tv next year, and samsung was at the top of my list anyways. Guess I need a new blu-ray player for the one downstairs too… Don’t think I can get away with 2 new tv’s ![]()
yeah sneaking a new TV in the house would be tough…in my case the Blu-ray was easy until she spotted the extra HDMI cable which wasn’t routed though the channel in the wall cause I bought one that was too short. That will teach me!!! LMAO
Thats one of the pluses for having all your AV equipment in a Den or closet and having a HDMI switch or Matrix in the same rack
…All my wife sees a large mess of cables etc and little does she now that the rats nest of cables may contain some new secret AV gear ![]()
I used to use a PS3 for and sold it to someone at work as I wasn’t using it for anything other than Blueray (a bit of a waste); I’ve been using the PC instead which has been good; however I bought Iron Man 2 on the weekend and it wont play for some reason and I’m now thinking its time to get a standalone player! I’m now torn between a PS3 again or one of these Samsung players!
I am on the same fence @Strangley.
Not just because I have the HDMI Matrix setup now too, but because I’m not sure if TV control of Vera is going to be necessary at my house so getting the Samsung Blu-Ray may not be a requirement for me. I can use the TV remote (my ipod touch thanks to SQ Blaster) to control/monitor the house and it probably responds faster than the Samsung TV would. The only benefit I can see for myself is bringing up the cameras on the TV instead of my little ipod screen…hmm, thinking…problem solved I am buying an iPad ![]()
The Samsung interface is a great move on MCVs part for the majority of buyers, but now that I have made the switch to total ipod control, the more I think about it I don’t think it would apply to me. Unless the Samsung app offered full screen camera multi-view with PTZ support, then I couldn’t resist.
Will the app need updating as Vera’s FW moves forward, who makes the app?
JOD.
Mios/MCV makes the app. I don’t think it will require updating, unless they want to add features. It will probably work like iVera in that it goes out and requests information about your devices and then populates the GUI. Who knows how it will do with a huge number of devices, or if they’ll add a way to hide devices (something requested for UI4 too). I think they are still working things out with Samsung.

I like the Google TV idea. I have a small pc behind my tv now that I use mostly for playing music from my network and sharing pics.
This thing would easily replace it and has more to offer.
With the Android based OS, I think it would be easy to integrate some nice zwave plugins for it too!
I’m in the same boat. Figure I’ll let GTV sort out it’s “application” model first, and see how well they do without the keyboard… also want to see where ATV takes they’re v2 product. I’m hoping the GTV can do Screen overlays, you have to run your HDMI through it so that’s at least a good start…
Let me know when you get one as I want to know if it obeys CEC or not, and you have the bits to work that out.
The price seems a little bit high at the moment. I know its probably worth it considering what it can do, but it’s still a bit higher than I expected. I guess I’ll play the wait and see approach. Hopefully more products will come out and it won’t be exclusive to Sony or Logitech!
