Micasaverde Vera App/Plugin - Awards 2012

I’m thinking out loud…

With 2012 coming to a close, I was wondering, would people support the idea of doing a (very informal) Vera App/Plugin of the year award?

For many of us this forum help us get even more out of our Vera’s. So it’s with that in mind, that maybe we should take time out to celebrate the great work done by so many.

By using polls, or direct messages we can gather feedback and could potentially have award categories like this .

  1. Most Downloaded (app store counts, provided by MCV)
  2. Forums App Choice (voted by the forum members)
  3. Best Newcomer (Developer, voted by a committee*)
  4. Best integration (1 x hardware 1 x software )
  5. Best in Class (Devices/Integration by Forum category e.g. AV, Security, HVAC)
  • maybe made up of the more experienced forum members

Is this a good idea or not, and if it is, maybe Micasaverde might like to help me/us take this up ?

I think this is a great idea and believe MCV and the forum members should support this as the work and efforts by the developers keep the product growing.

I love this idea! I like all ideas which honor the free work of current developpers, and which may encourage others to start developping.

MCV could/should offer some prices for the winners…

Great idea, i think the developers for vera are some of the most dedicated developer have seen. They deserve the recognition.

Hi all

Thanks for all the positive comments so far, sadly no comments from MCV (yet),

I need to add

  1. Best Mobile App (1x Android, 1 x iOs)

If there continues to be positive feedback to the idea, then I/we can look at doing the following…

  1. Putting an entry into each forum section for people to put forward their recommendations for each award, the General Section would look to capture the ‘App of the year’
  2. After x weeks of suggestions, the top 5 will be short listed and then run in another post - either as a poll or a private message contribution
  3. Results will be shared in a final post to show the winners

All ideas welcome…

MCV (mcvflorin) if you see this would you be willing to help and ask the directors if they would support such an initiative? i know MCV already support developers (http://micasaverde.com/develop-an-app.php), but this small investment if only in time, would be a nice distraction for those who develop plugins for Vera.

Love it. It would really help us new guys with what plug-ins we might want to look at!

It would be very nice if MCV came in to support this; especially, if you see there current posts of Facebook as Vera 3 won an award and they are promoting the Nest app as well. Maybe when their holidays are over they can.
