I did not know how to share a video, so put it on dropbox. Anyway, like I said, works just fine in a metal mailbox

Edit: Doh! The mailbox isn’t on a metal post, thus it is not grounded. It needs to be grounded to be a Faraday cage.

lol that was awesome… thanks for the video and pics…
I love your touch screen interface…
As for the placement of sensor it’s good to know it works inside the box like that.
however my postman (post woman) has a tendency to shove mail & boxes in the mail box and i’m certain it would tear the sensor off.
so i’ll have to look at where i can place a sensor.
Thanks again!

How did you get your Vera to talk to you? That’s amazing

The App Imperihome that he is using has TTS in it’s Vera App. You can send a command from the Vera to the tablet app to have it say (Text To Speech). It’s really quite cool at first.
I will say that in my experience, I loved having the TTS (either via Vera Alerts or Imperihome), but the others in my household got sick of it fast, especially things like “Sara is home” (when she put her pin in the front door). It was really more for me because I work from home and my office is in the back of the house. I’ts nice knowing who actually is home.
Flora??? ;D
@SirMeili : Yes, I like it, because I can KNOW there is motion in the front, back, etc, rather than just ding on a phone, and need to research. I agree that the others in the house may tire of Vera talking, but, it actually helps, when the door opens between a certain time frame, it tells my middle-school kids what to do, and by when, because , of course, it has completly slipped their mind from the day before.
At 7:15 PM, it tells them it’s almost time to get ready for bed, at 7:30 another reminder, etc. It avoids my wife and I from fighting with them, because, they know at 8:00 vera tells them all nonsense has been turned off, and resistance is futile. Non compliance with Vera results in a device being confiscated the following day, and these occurrences are actually decreasing…Its good for a babysitter too to tell them what is going on in the house.
I saw one post where someone had a range of kwikset pin codes being read by PLEG, I need to figure that one out, as that could be helpful. That has not been obvious to me how to read the list of pin codes entered via PLEG.
Soon, Richard Schaefer’s Vera TTS app will run over my whole house audio, just need time to relocate my ELAM amp and my Airplays…
Take a look at these, then my example (after watching too many Hogan’s Heroes episodes).
I currently use my Android HP slate 21 to announce, but will change that to an old android tablet that I will hook up to my airplays to interrupt music, and play my announcements.
Richard’s Vera Alerts is great - You can also tell it when you want a DND times.

An example in a PLEG LUUP action:
uup.call_action(“urn:richardgreen:serviceId:VeraAlert1”, “SendAlert”,
{Message = “{tone:2} achtung, achtung, It’s Vera, please drive safely, as there may be black ice on the roads”, Recipients = “”}, 510)
My Vera Alerts plugin device number is 510, and this is triggered when the temp is below 35 degrees based on the Wunderground plugin.
