It looks pretty interesting if we can get it to speak Vera (or the other way around).
That thing is awesome and stupid at the same time.
I can’t decide if I should preorder or shake my head and laugh!
Interesting but nothing about an API
The engadget article says
“Even better, since it’s open source, you can make it work with the rest of a connected home, assuming you’ve been replacing your fixtures and furniture with their internet-connected counterparts. Luna can integrate with Nest, and you can also program it so that your smart door lock activates when you get into bed, or so that the coffeemaker starts brewing as soon as you wake up.”
Such a weird thing but if it speaks to Vera, could be really interesting. Especially if it can tell which side of the bed (of both) is occupied.

Yeah, I thougt the same thing. I can just imagine the apps for this thing. It’s got movement sensors in there, all I can see is automatic tweeting when the bed is currently ‘active.’ oh, man
I love this idea. Finally a holistic overview without having to wear sensors.
But pre-order? No thanks, I’ll wait for retail. As per their FAQ: [tt]Pre-orders are not refundable. By making a contribution to this campaign, you acknowledge that you understand that you are contributing to a work-in-progress and not making a direct purchase.[/tt]
Plus I’ve had my fill of pre-order experiences with asic mining hardware.
I NEED ONE!!
Seriously it’s really cool and if the link with vera works i will be able to know when i’m in bed or not and control stuff.
But no pre order for me too. i will wait for release

Yeah having Vera know when I’m out of bed could be handy. Especially at 3:00am . . . turn on some soft lights

My poor sad reading skills. In the famous words of Ralph Wiggum: “Me fail English? That’s unpossible!”
Now I’m going to have to think about picking one of these up. Don’t need one but intrigued
I was thinking more of having vera know every time two people are in bed…start playing Barry White over Sonos and turn on the led lights in “disco mode”…
Not exactly sure the wife would appreciate that, but that could make a nice addition for the guest bedroom.
Pre-ordered one and will actually compare it with the Hello https://hello.is/as my wife pre-ordered that a month ago. Hello is supposedly shipping out in February. The loser will be moved to one of our guest bedrooms…
The Hello looks like a nice option. No API yet, though they are working on one. I might preorder one; they only charge your CC when it actually ships.
I feel the best part of the Luna is the temperature control. We have had a heated mattress pad for years, nothing better than getting into a warm bed. Due to the controller I can?t automate the pad using an appliance module. My hope is to have the heat turn on an hour of so before normal bed time then drop down when turn in. The other benefits are gray on top. That said, no pre order for me, still looking for my bRight light switch???

I think they just copied and pasted from their Indegogo campaign, I think this is refundable now since the campaign is over. They are using a different company for the pre orders now.
Bringing this thread back to life… I just got back from vacation and my ‘Eight Sleep’ mattress was waiting for me. Very nicely done, sleep tracking looks very accurate along with all the other metrics recorded
toss and turns
bed temp
room temp
bpm’s (breaths per minute)
Time we fell asleep and woke
I also see they have an IFTTT channel so the API must be coming along nicely…
I got my new Eight mattress cover today! I’ve been watching the product since it first launched a couple of years ago. I was disappointed that I have to manually place the mattress in “Night mode”. I was hoping that it would detect when I fell asleep and then turn off the lights/TV/lock doors…
I could even live with it detecting “someone in the bed” and set a virtual button to “on”.
Does anyone have a Vera or OpenHAB work-around for this?
Your $950 air iMattress isn’t living up to your expectations? Here’s my shocked face: :o
Z-Wave bed presence is perhaps best accomplished by placing a pressure pad, connected to a Z-Wave door/window sensor, under the mattress. A little bit of Lua or PLEG logic - a time schedule and a certain amount of time after presence is detected then turn everything off - will do what you seem to want.
