Luap restarts / Is it normal for a Vera2 to want to download plugins repeatedly?

Vera2 running UI4, USB logging enabled

Some months back, my Vera2 developed the same kind of repeated luap restart loop, that I’ve seen on several other past threads. There were no coinciding changes made to point at & it didn’t seem to be a resource issue as far as I could tell. I opened a ticket, but didn’t get a response on that one & since the system was still largely usable, I left it as is until I could find a good solution.

However, whatever is happening, has now degraded to the point where the luap engine is resetting every couple of minutes - switches around the house still work more or less ok, but anything on a precise timer is at the mercy of the luap restarts.

Looking at the logs/watching the status display on it’s web page indicates that the luap reboot happens after the last plugin is reported as downloading. I tried removing the last couple of plugins to see if they were at fault, but this didn’t seem to have an effect other than slightly reducing the time between resets.

On a hunch, I disconnected the Ethernet cable to the Vera2 for a couple of minutes & watched it’s status LEDs - the ETH light started blinking, as expected - however, the other LEDs eventually settled into the pattern displayed after a successful boot, with the Zwave light staying lit (this turns off/on on each Luap restart). Plugging the Ethernet cable back in, allowed the Unable to download plugins, waiting 10 minutes message to show & the luap engine proceeded to run happily, until after 10 mins, it repeated the downloads & restarted it’s restart loop once more.

Any ideas what the likely resolution steps might be for this?
Why is it even needing to re-download the plugins?

If log files would help, just let me know which ones to post.

You may be running low on the memory used as disk space to save files.

A reload after downloading is normal … But apparently he new files are not getting recognize when Vera restarts … So the cycle repeats.

add you try restoring from a date before the problems … And turn off auto update for all of your plugins ?

Thanks for your post, Richard - I was able to get support to take a look at my box, after emailing in a ticket. They did some magic & fixed whatever was causing the luap restart every minute or so - however, the Vera2 is now back in it’s previous state of restarting the luap engine every 10 minutes. After a further inquiry to support, they said that the 10 minute restart was caused by the box attempting to reload the generic & panasonic PTZ IP camera plugins.

It turns out that these plugins are both version 0.61, which it seems no longer exist on the mios servers (the current version appears to be 0.90). I’m not sure why the box wants to reload these, as they’ve been in-situ for several years without any intentional changes, but that’s apparently the cause of the problem. You mentioned turning off auto update for all plugins, but I can’t find any such option - was this a feature included in UI4, or only with the later UIs?

Support recommended a double firmware update to ui4-1.1.136 & then to ui5-1.5.622 - I’d previously put off updating to UI5, wanting to avoid messing with a working setup. Whilst this is probably the right road to ultimately take, I’m wondering if simply updating the plugins to the current version 0.90 would be worth a try first?

Is there a procedure to update these UI4 plugins, without having to reconfigure the cameras they’re currently running?
