I’ve got about 6 of these switches in various configurations (standard / 3 way), and I’ve kinda hit on an issue. I’m used to standard toggle type switches, and these GE’s are rocker, which has created a strange usage problem for us.
The Problem: We have noticed many time when we go to turn on the light switch, we will “double tap” the switch by accident and the light switch will not activate.
Question: Is there anything in the programing of these switches that I can set that would make the switch activate on a “double tap” also?
I actually upgraded all my toggles to rockers (both GE Zwave and non z-wave) as I find them far easier to operate than toggles. Especially considering I am getting older. For the same reason all door handles were upgraded to levers. Just in case I develop eg arthritis later on. I’ve never had problems with double tapping them. Bsically I push them and for on slide my finger up and off. For off, I push and slide down and off. I rarely just push.
I have a ton of GE switches in two houses. I never had this problem, but GE switches like a long good hard single push. Even if you try and quick single tap it won’t turn on. And quick double tap really wont turn on. It needs a firm single push to turn on.
I have about 6 of these rocker/decorator switches all from Lowes bought over a period of time and I just tested them. Some don’t care whether double tapped (or tapped in rapid succession) and work as normal, others don’t respond with the double tap and need a long (er) press before turning on the light. That’s interesting…
Edit,
Looked this morning at the switches version numbers:
Ones with version 6,3,20,3,22 can handle multiple taps and still turn on/off as expected
Ones with version 6,3,40,3,25 can not (which is a majority of the switches that I have) and need a longer single press to respond.
It’s never been an issue for me but there is a difference.
