I am trying to create a surveillance system in my house. Just got vera setup with some sirens and sensors + vera alerts. I purchased one foscam wireless ipc to use as a baby monitor that is working good.

I also purchased a Zmodo zmd-dd-sbn4 which after a few hours of trying I decided it is not going to work… so it is being returned

I am looking for 4 outdoor cameras and ability to record apx 1 week 24/7 + easy vera integration… any body who has done this please let me know the setup.

Home Security Store offers a tons of security related products, and browsing through their site from components to complete packages.

Night Owl has complete systems too. I have not tried their products, but they seem comparable to the other systems out there.

Maybe someone else who has setup a surveillance system can chime in with more info.

There are some threads about this on the forum.

Look into blue iris software, easy to setup, many options, possible to controll via vera (scene’s) and costs almost nothing.

Thank you for your replies. I am not familiar with blue iris… it seems like you need a PC running all the time… not very energy efficient.

Maybe the only way is get 4 independent ip cameras and set them up on vera… then get a stand alone nvr to record their streams… just seems like that setup would cost at best $700… much more than the $170 zmodo 4 ch dvr which unfortunately does not work.

Somebody must have had success with this… anyone?

You’re gonna have to pay. It’s just the facts right now since home surveillance is kinda taking off with the recent news reports having to do with home cameras.
