long delay on Ge 12727 Zwave switch

Hi,
i am running into a issue that maybe someone here may have some input on,

I have a ge 12727 switch that takes about 5-10 minutes to turn on and off.
if i turn on the switch through the Vera dashboard, the light turns on ASAP and i can hear the GE switch make noise as well.

i have tried zwave repair and all? I am running ui version 1.5.622.
Any recommendation?

Thanks
KKJ

What do you mean that it takes a long time.
Do you mean when you operate the switch manually. If this takes a long time it sounds knackered.

When you say operating via the dashboard is asap what does this mean.

sorry,
ill make it more clear.

it takes about 5-10 minutes for the switch to register to VERA when using the switch manually.

When going into the devices on VERA UI and click “on”, the light turns on instantly.

You need to read about “instant status” and “polling”.

GE switches don’t have instant status and relay on vera to POLL them to know what their current status is. So when you physically use the device it doesn’t send its status stright to vera (instant status switches do).

Now GE if close to the vera and when connected directly to vera (without jumping or using the mesh) it will act as if it does have instant status. So GE switches closer to your vera may not have this issue but it doesn’t me they have instant status.

The patent for instant status was locked down but it recently expired (within the last few months) and now new switches (cheaper ones) are starting to have this very important feature that until recently was patented protected and used on only more expensive switches.

You find alot of threads where people want to use one switch to control other lights and it’s always told use a Instant status switch or you could have delays. this is why.

Now on polling. Polling is where your vera goes around a circle and checks (polls) each device to check it’s current status. If yours is taking 10 min then that means you have alot of devices and or vera is busy. It only polls when its not busy and it goes in order around a circle, which takes long to go around when you have more devices or devices that have reception issues and take several tries or along time to respond back. Playing with polling times on each device can sometimes cause more issues then it fixes, but is possible. My suggestion would be to swap out that switch for a switch with instant status.

You should be able to find them now for 30-40.00 and have more features.

Any chance you could recommend an affordable (or not!) dimming ZWave light switch in a “toggle” configuration like the GE 12727 or 12729? My application pretty much demands a switch of this type (for decorative purposes) – ideally one that also plays well with dimmable LED bulbs – and I’m unable to locate my extra HomeSeer HA20C’s (which I like, but which don’t handle newer bulbs with aplomb).

Suggestions welcome, before I commit!! Thanks. - LS

None exist and altho I have alot of GE switches I havent heard good things about those toggles.

There are micro-switches that have instance status (that sit behind your current toggle switch)), some of which have instant status, but they don’t support dimming from the switch, you would only be able to dim from the app/controller/scene, which is probably not what you want!
