Lock position switch for UI7 ??

I don’t really need a lock actuator, but would like to have a way to verify that all the doors are locked.

Is there a switch or device which interfaces with Vera, to simply show lock status “LOCKED” ??

Thanks

I have the same question  also want it for my save/vault.

Well, to answer my own question;

The Everspring SM103 z-wave contact sensor, has external switch connections.

So a course of action maybe to; purchase one of these switches and wire it into a push button switch which get actuated when the deadbolt is extended.

Not sure how this is displayed in Vera.

The Zwave portion operates at 4.5 volts, so I may hard wire this into a 5v power supply and not have to deal with batteries…

That would of course work… but a bigger problem is with installing this DIY solution in a manner that is reliable and also looks good. It seems to me that it would be a fair bit of work to install a switch that senses the deadbolt has been thrown as well as the Everspring sensor into an existing door frame, along with the required wiring. Replacing the existing deadbolt with a Z-Wave door lock (and it doesn’t necessarily have to be motorized) would, despite the greater initial expense, be a far more reliable and elegant solution.

I would have to post a picture of the door handle set I have. I have not been able to locate a Door Lock kit which would fit this installation.

I have the same issue with a Milguard vinyl Sliding door lock. I have no way to motorize it or so show its lock status. I don’t want a big bulky sensor (sm103) next to the door let alone trying to figure out how to mount a micro switch on the handle or inside on the hook some how then to wire them all together (and a power source like you talked about) would be alot of bulk and trying to hide wires and power supply’s.

While it will not work with a slider… Kwikset has start a line of z-wave deadbolts that only have a deadbolt… no keypad, so may be more versatile to work with your door, and doesn’t add the key pad. they have matching lower assemblies as well if you are willing to change.

I’ll bet money that doesn’t fit his door either. There is not many doors that can take a deadbolt but not a deadbolt with keypad.
A dead bolt is on top of the regular lock
If a window or something was right above the lock you would have an issue on the inside of the door also as it still has a large battery case and would be on the way on the inside too.
Some say its to make the door more original but I think it’s away to offer a cheaper lock.

I was purely assuming, since no picture was posted that, he didn’t want a key pad for the look of it not for lack of space. Most fancy front door assemblies do not have a second lock, that seems to be more of a back door standard. However you can order a matching assembly or even a backdoor assembly with a push button lock that matches and can be keyed the same. I did something similar with my back door with a Schlage, but wanted a key pad.

Front door assemblies on the kind that unlock the dead bolt when you turn the handle from the are integrated so yes, would not work by just trying to replace the deadbolt you would also have to replace the lower assembly, but if it is not integrated like that, you can certainly just just replace the lock, not all front door assemblies are integrated between the handle and the dead bolt.

It would also be unusual for a window to be that close to the lock assembly they are usually to the side or up a bit from the lock, if it was that close to the lock it would cause easily cause integrity problems on the door.

I’m going to guess he has a lock setup something like this.

Personally I have been buying the 910’s locally for 60.00 store returns and have 8 of them between mine, my parents and a vacation home. Here’s my front door with a “matching lower assembly”.

I can’t image using the deadbolt without a keypad as it would make it difficult to “touch to lock” the door behind you and house sitters/family to get in. As I said in the other thread I think it was made as a cheaper alternative.

Oh, yes Adams or M class locks are tricky. There are some wireless ones out there but they are all propriety and don’t link into the Vera. I think saw one by either Samsung or LG that looked interesting but there were no spec on it because it was dealer installs only.

As for the quickset, I have a key pad on my garage entry (the one we use most of the time), and on my back door (incase the power is out and you can’t get in through the garage). I don’t like the look of a key pad on the front door, but wouldn’t mind having something like the quickset, just so I can check… did we remember to lock it? And lock it when arming the alarm system away (any one arming the system has a keyless entry in the garage so no chance of lock out). Unfortunately all my locks are Schlage, so leaving the front door currently as is.
