Local Load Swtich and Single Scene Controller

I have not come across any direct solution or definitive answer in the forum, my apologies if I have missed the solution elsewhere. I have a 2-wire switch GE z-wave dimmer that turns off and on basement overhead lights. I also have a Z-wave receptacle in the basement as well. The ideal scenario would be to have the switch be able to turn off and on the local load with or without Vera and turn off and on a single scene that would power up the receptacle (eventually several more receptacles added to the same scene.

The next best thing is a vera scene that controls both the overhead light (local load) and the scene (basement receptacles).

Has anyone been able to make this type of set up work? If so, what switch/controller did you you and how did you configure Vera? It is not a problem moving the existing z-wave switch to another location and I do not need or really want a dimmer for this particular switch.

Thank you,

David

Does the switch support Group 2 or Group 3 associations?

If so you can control the receptacle with a double tap (or triple tap, for group 3) on the light switch.
Add an association group (2, or 3) to the dimmer and put the receptacle id in the group. Here’s a screen shot.

Then save, reload, and “reconfigure node now” on the switch - in that order. Maybe a couple of times.

Thank you. I will check in the vendor materials. The switch does support a single tap for on or off as a dimmer switch.

As far as I know the GE switches do not support direct associations. If Vera is within 1 hop of the switch then you can do a scene and have Vera manage it. Just develop a scene and go to the triggers tab (UI5) and select your switch.

The HomePro and Evolve dimmers do support groups; the confusing thing is both they and the GE ones all use the same moulded parts, and all three use exactly the same parameter settings for things like ramp rate and night-light feature, so they’re running basically the same or very similar firmware. So to be 100% sure I would try it anyway, even if the vendor-supplied materials don’t mention it.

Interesting.

A vendor told me that the Evolve switches do not support double and triple taps.

@autotoronto: Do you happen to know from personal experience that they do ?

I have several ACT HomePro switches, and I love that functionality.

You’re right; what I thought was an Evolve unit turns out to be a HomePro one, when I took it out of the wall to check. The Evolve is “scene capable” though, whatever that means.

Don’t know about the other Evolve gear, but the transmitter LTM-5 does not have the multi-tap functionality, even though some sites will say it’s the new ZTW103. Presumably the multi-tap functionality got sacrificed to support other features.

I’ve been distracted from this project for a little while. What I will like nd up doing is getting a wall mounted scene controller. The benefit is that it can be located in a better location. For me, this helps keep the setup simple.
