"Loading data in progress" fails (a.k.a. "Data not loading?")

Hello,

After about a week with the Vera2, I would like to nominate all Vera2 owners for sainthood. Clearly this device hates humans, and maybe Z-Wave devices too.

My latest challenge is that I can’t use my Vera2 at all. When I try to use the UI, it grinds away for a while with a “Loading data in progress” message, then eventually gives up with a “Data not loading?” dialog. That dialog has 4 choices, none of which do anything.

I’ve used the “reset double-tap” trick to try to hard reset the Vera2 to factory conditions, but if the device has done a hard reset (there’s no way to tell for sure AFAIK) it doesn’t fix this problem.

Advice on what to do now would be much appreciated.

It sounds like you have a network connection issue between your Vera and your computer.
Did you set up your Vera using http://micasverde.com/vera2?
Have you set up an account on mios.com?
Is your Vera located on the same LAN as your computer?

Nope, the network connection is perfect. I can get to the Vera2 without a problem from both my network and my myMiOS account.

The errors I described aren’t network or browser errors, but errors internal to the Vera2 itself.

Could you describe more precisely what steps where done since you get Vera ?

(firmware upgrade ? Device added, etc)

Sure! I got my Vera2, upgraded to firmware 1.1.1245 and Z-Wave 3.20, and even got a 3-in-1 sensor to trigger a switch.

Not reliably, though. The Vera2’s RF design doesn’t seem to reach anywhere near the touted 30 meters for Z-Wave, so I bought a GE Fluorescent/Appliance model mostly to act as a repeater.

The problem I’m describing here started to happen just after I tried to add this new module to the network. (Since the Vera2 is unusable at the moment, I have no idea whether it successfully added it or not.)

I’m gonna guess you’ve reset Vera back to DHCP and lost her.
An easy way if you have a router, is to search for Vera in your IP list of connected devices within your router, or try connecting directly to Vera ETH2 (your computer set to DHCP) and type 192.168.81.1

If you connect, you can then set her to a static IP.

JOD.

Nope, I’m connected directly to the Vera2 perfectly via the same IP address as usual (which I guess suggests that the hard reset process isn’t working).

The errors I described aren’t network- or browser-related, but errors internal to the Vera2 itself. In other words, both “Loading data in progress” and the “Data not loading?” dialog are presented by the Vera2’s UI.

What is shown in the location bar in your browser? I have seen those messages when mymios cannot connect to the Vera.

Even after clearing cache, restarting the browser, or using a different browser?
Have you tried a ‘ping ’ from your computer’s command line?

Hey all,

I appreciate all the ideas.

After about 8 trys the hard reset finally “took”, the Vera2 appeared at its default IP address, and I was able to reconfigure from scratch.

I’ve added the new switch/repeater to the network, and I’m hoping that fixes the RF communications issues the Vera2 seems to be having.
