Lite to Edge Upgrade Questions

I upgraded my 9 month old Lite to an Edge on Saturday, and the copy process actually went very well. What didn’t go so well was making the Lite a slave to the Edge. What I wanted to do was to put the Lite in my barn which is about 100 feet away from the house and too far away to get a reliable Z-Wave signal. When I built the barn and ran power out there I also ran Ethernet so I have my home network extended out there. Moving the Lite out there would give me the ability to have a few devices in the barn that I would like to have.

Anyway the upgrade instructions from the Mios website suggested that the Lite would be demoted to slave in the process which it was not. I called support only to be told that an Edge can’t currently be a Master and I would have to make the Lite be the master. That sounded like it would still work for me so support began the process to do that, 3 hours later they told me that they needed to research why they could not get the Lite and Edge bridged together and would be working on it today.

This morning I got an email saying they got the units bridged and could I take a look. The new Edge looks fine, all devices are there as well as scenes but it’s still set as Master. The Lite too is set as a Master, all my devices from the Edge are showing up on the Lite but they are listed in a weird way, no rooms and they have what I think is the device number from the Edge. Devices are shown on the Lite like this, Hallway Light [34]. They asked me to see if I could control these devices from the Lite and I cannot.

My question for the experts here is does anyone have experiences with bridged Vera’s …? Why do I really need to bridge them at all…? What’s best practice for running two Vera’s in one home…?
