Leviton VRCS2-MRZ - Scene Control Only?

I’m curious if the Leviton VRCS2-MRZ two-button scene controller with local load switches can operate purely as a scene controller, or if both switches must have local loads attached. I have a dead switch (meaning it’s connected to a ceiling box I’m not using) and I’d like to put a two-button scene controller in it’s place. I obviously don’t need to control the unused ceiling box, and there’s only that one load in that box. If I install this Leviton scene controller, will I be able to use both buttons as scene buttons even though only one will be connected to a local load?

It shouldn’t have any issues operating purely as a scene controller. They are relays for the 2 local loads, so when they are “off” no current runs through them. The controller has hot and neutral connections, so it doesn’t rely on the load like some dimmers do (which pass a small amount of current through the load to complete the circuit).

I have used VRCZ4-MRX in table-top enclosures with no issues.

I expect the same. The scene controller (i.e. the two buttons) and the local loads are independent. I’d have to test it, but you can exclude the unused local loads (so they won’t show as being present / you can’t accidentally turn it on etc.). (See here.)

Great. Thanks for the responses.
