I wish someone told me that when your Vera is working so well you do not have to worry about it … that’s the time to take a Backup. Usually things get real bad then you find out … I wish I had a backup … been there … very frustrating … and yes I have 20 of these devices … and about a dozen of their RZS05 on/off switches. … In fact things have been so good for a while I just took another backup!

I should have been more clear. If you log into your mios account on your vera unit, under the backup section, you should see 2 weeks worth of backups. Your vera unit backups automatically to MCV’s servers.

i only have 4 devices so far. wouldnt take long to add them back if i do a fectory reset.

I don’t think it is a bad idea to contact MCV when someone has a problem such as not having a mesh network after upgrading to UI5. By reporting the problem Tech Support will gain a better idea regarding how wide spread such problem is. Also, in my case, three weeks had already passed before I first understood what the problem was, and it took MCV Tech support a week to respond. In that case the cp.mios.com backups were not useful. They might have been, but I did not want to take the chance of making a bad problem much worse, by using them, so I contacted MCV Tech Support to ask them what I needed to do. I was fully expecting the answer to be a Default Factory Reset followed by a rebuild of a network with over 30 device. Fortunately, MCV Tech Support was able to fix my problem using a five week old backup, but they never told me what steps they followed to restore my system, As far as I know, they may used an internal tool instead of a restore from a normal backup. I appreciate the comment from garrettwp that when doing a restore from backup to make sure to click “Restore Dongle Firmware”. I once had a situation on my Vera 2 with ghost devices. I ran several backups without any improvement. It was not until someone on this forum mentioned that I need to make sure to to click “Restore Dongle Firmware” when doing a restore, that I was able to eliminate the ghost devices. There need to be a greater emphasis of the need to “Restore Dongle Firmware” when doing a system restore.

I don’t know how many units lost their mesh networks when they were updated to UI5. I imagine there are a significant number. It would have been nice if MCV Tech Support had posted an entry in this forum telling its community that they were aware of the problem and what they proposed as the best way(s) to solve it. The upgrade to UI5 has caused a great degree of turmoil and concern in the MCV user community. The best way to deal with these sorts of issues is clear communication.

The UI allows you to restore your configuration, or your configuration + Z-Wave database (as @garrettwp referenced). I believe Tech Support has an undocumented way of restoring just the Z-Wave database (after extracting it from a backup); which may be useful in some cases.

In at least one case, they extract the [tt]dongle.dump[/tt] file from a backup, and then overwrite (after backing up the current [tt]dongle.dump[/tt] file) the existing file in [tt]/etc/cmh/[/tt]

I think this then needs to be "touched’ to tweak it’s timestamp, but I could be wrong as the JSON contains the Last Dongle Dump timestamp, and a restart performed.

YMMV

tech support sent me an email directing me to exclude and add the device back to the network… first i just clicked the trashcan button …obviously did not remove. then i did proper steps to exlude device and added it back in. BINGO!!! freeking works. not sure what they did, but im very please with the customer support. first time ive had to use it, and to my suprise they came through. thanks to all who helped along the way.time to add more devices ;D
