Leviton Light Switch Not Working as Trigger

Hello all. I have a Leviton dimmer switch (DZMX1) capable of instant status. When I use the Vera UI to turn off the switch, the scene works as desired. When I manually toggle the switch at the wall, the scene fails. I have it arranged the scene as follows:

Trigger: When Light A is turned off
Event: Turn off Light B

Both lights are the same Leviton model. The device wizard did not have a specific model for Leviton so I enrolled them as generic Z-wave devices and everything seems fine. Perhaps there is additional setup I need to do (i.e. tell the Vera the switch is instant status capable?). I am using Vera Edge with latest firmware 1.7.850.

Am I trying to perform a function that is not possible? If not, what am I overlooking. I’ve tried to search the forums for a related problem but the results generally include switches without instant status capability.

You are not alone here… I am just sorry I just found this post as I have been suffering with the same issue with a Leviton dimmer.

Historically it worked great as a trigger with a Vera2 with UI4, then upgrade to a Vera3 and UI5. When I entered the room and turned on the dimmer (light) my written scene executed and turned on a switched outlet too. The second scene also worked to turn it all off.

When I first got my VeraEdge I had my Vera3 slaved to the VE with both on UI7. The scenes would both trigger fine locally or using the Vera CP. Once I seemed happy and disconnected Vera3, the scene only executes from the Vera CP… just like yours!

Fast forward to the recent firmware update… it didn’t fix it. I still get a “Failed at: Please wait! Getting the manufacturer” notice and the same operational trouble. I called tech support and spoke to Brian. He says the switch is bad. I disagree as I explained it makes no sense especially given the history and timing of the “failure”.

I asked Brian to pass my case to George… that guy is a miracle worker and my only hope.

For now… no solution. I’ll keep you posted though!

A skilled and enterprising forum member, @oti@, did figure out a hack to make Vera act as if the switch did support Instant Status IF it was communicating directly with Vera and not routed through intermediate nodes.

My Leviton is the VRI06-1LZ Z-Wave 600-Watt 2-Wire Dimmer… should work I thought :frowning: .

The VRI06-1LZ does support Instant Status.

Contrary to your previous post, @chuck1026,you are not suffering the same issue as @YellowShark. Your issue is due to firmware bugs in UI7, his issue is that his device has no Instant Status capability.

Thanks for confirming that Z-Waver :slight_smile: . This bug is hard to kill! Well I hope George at tech support will help me out. I don’t see where we get case numbers anymore like the ole UI5 days so I can’t reference a case. Progress or ???.
