I’m relatively new to Z-wave but have a tech background (have a Vera 3 with two Schlage locks that work great other than eating batteries).

I installed a Leviton DZR15 outlet (from Home Depot) and installed it as a “Other Z-Wave”. It shows up as a light bulb icon. It seemed to be working OK but now when I remotely try to turn it off I get an “Cannot contact device, error code: 2”

Any help would be much appreciated.

This message is exactly as it says. You must figure out why Vera is unable to reach the device.

  1. Does the device have power? - Power cycle the device. It should operate when you press the button on the device.

  2. Is the device too far away from Vera or the Z-Wave network? Move the device close to Vera (within 5 feet) and see if the device works there.

2a. If the device works close to Vera but not in the desired location, a network heal might figure out a route between Vera and the device (provided that there are intermediate routing nodes(not battery operated).

2b. Add intermediate routing nodes to increase the robustness and range of the Z-Wave network.
