I just installed two kwikset HomeConnect locks and a Vera Lite. One lock is on my back door; the second, on my detached garage. My Vera is in my living room, near the front of the house.
The Vera Lite is able to control the back door with no problem. It cannot, however, reach the lock on the garage door. When I moved my Vera to the back of the house, right next to the working kwikset lock to troubleshoot, it was suddenly able to control both locks.
My hope at that point was to manually route the control of the lock on the garage door through the lock on the back door, as I cannot keep the Vera in that part of the house. As I only have the three devices, I simply entered “3”, as that is the ID number for the back door lock, into the manual routing block under the Setup for the Garage Door lock. Unfortunately, it did not work.
The back door and the garage door are about 15 unobstructed yards apart. Does the Vera Lite simply have a greater range than the locks? Or why would the locks not be able to talk to each other?
Thanks for the advice and the help.
This has been discussed so many times. Locks are picky when it comes to range. You need to have a few devices near the lock to have better range. They must support beaming. Your other door lock can not be a repeater hence the reason why what you did does not work. The only way to get good reliability from the locks to Vera is to expand your zwave network or relocate the Vera unit so that it can control both locks.

Thanks, Garrett. I had seen posts about locks and range, but nothing that compared the transmitting power of a lock to that of the vera lite itself.
Of course, if the locks cannot be a repeater, than that would be the problem… they have no range whatsoever.
Thanks for the information.
