I saw this last night too and against my better judgement I preordered one :
Hopefully with all the delays they’ve had, it should be bullet proof! If it inst, then the B&D main office is about a mile from where I work and I think i’ll go there and shout a lot
Lol, strangely I’m glad you have that luxury of being able to knock on B & D’s door.
I hope they are at least as good as the Schlage lock too. I remember a post on here about somone’s parent’s house having trouble with the Zigbee version and Control4, but that could just be the lack of a good mesh of devices, or proximity to the lock. It is so tempting to buy more with the discount, but I think I’ll try one to be sure it works well first.
I am hoping most of the delay was just because Control4 had exclusive access tot he lock for a year, but that may have been B&D’s way of really field testing the products before using Z-Wave.
I already have 1 Schlage deadbolt, which I will replace with the Kwikset. The other Kwikset will replace a Schlage lever lock. Let’s see. I’ll have a total of 6 Z-wave locks at that point. Maybe a bit obsessive, but not too bad.
will be interested in seeing how well the deadbolts really hold up (as in not jamming). Would prefer one of these
on my rental. Would be soooo nice to actually be able to retract / throw the bolt.
I played around with the zigbee version a while back and it holds up pretty well. It is tapered, and if I’m remembering correctly, if it feels resistance it stops and tries again a couple times.
This is kind of an odd question, but does anyone know if the outdoor half of the lock can be replaced with a simple manual Kwikset keyed deadbolt?
I already have a similar 100% manual version of this lock, and I’m wondering if the bar that goes through the bolt mechanism from inside to out (connects the manual knob to the tumbler outside) is the same.
What I am really after is having the ability to lock the door with Z-wave, but not have the keypad on the outside. I presume there is only the keypad outside with a small wire to the brains/batteries/drive inside like original PowerBolt, and am hoping the lock would still work with the keypad disconnected.
ASIHome → have you had a chance to play with these new locks from Kwikset? I am considering ordering one, but I do not know how good do they work with VERA, so can you share your experiences if any.
I’ve had one of these for a few days now, but have not tested it yet. I will certainly try it sometime this week if I can get my other Vera2 problems sorted out. Will keep you posted on my experience.

Thanks for any insights![/quote]
Just got mine the other day. I can confirm that the standard Weiser/Kwikset exterior piece is compatible with the lock, and the lock seems to work find without the keypad plugged in.
Thus you can have a “normal” outside lock, with the Zwave motorized inside piece, and Vera-controlled locking/unlocking without an external keypad.
I just got mine working after WAAAY too many hours over several nights this past week. I included and excluded it more than 20 times before I finally broke down and reread ALL of the instructions. I guess that step where the lock confirms the direction the bolt needs to throw is important after all.
I can gladly say the lock works as expected now. I will be helping my father install his lock in the near future. I was his guinea pig.

I’m not so sure that should have caused an inclusion issue. When My lock gave trouble it finally included but I never re-did anything with the auto-bolt direction procedure.
