KPL Not Recognized

I’ve recently upgraded to version 0.08 and want to thank everyone for their updates. In my setup I have two KPLs of which only one is working (DevCat: 01 SubCat: 1C) and very much enjoying the new button features.

The second KPL is still not recognized with (DevCat: 01 SubCat: 19). Can someone please confirm that this SubCat is not recognized in the code; and if so ask that it be included in the next nightly build. Command line output from altsteon_cli below:

According to the documentation, that cat/subcat is a “SwitchLinc Dimmer [with beeper]”

Can you restart the daemon and re-add the device? I’d like to verify that it got the information correctly.

How old is the KPL Dimmer? What does the version sticker on the front say?

After deeper investigation discovered that I had my Insteon ID’s crossed. The device listed is actually a dimmer as you had mentioned. I found the correct ID for the KPL and the SubCat was recognized and is working great. Thanks for helping solve the mystery and am very happy with the functionality in this release.

Ok great! I wasn’t sure how to proceed, since changing it to match your KPL could break other people’s dimmers!

I tried to add my just bought Insteon 6-button Keypad Dimmer Switch with no success.
When entering just the device ID the device is created with DevCat: FF, SubCat: FF and Ver: FF.
So I tried to add the device with above mentioned cat/subcat combos (like a battery operated device), thinking I might be successful. But I wasn’t. >:)
Each time a device is created in the UI but when clicking the ON or OFF button I get a CLI message ‘Unknown command’ when DevCat/SubCat was FF/FF or Unknown device’ when DevCat/SubCat was like mentioned.

Is there any way to find the proper DevCat/SubCat/Ver combinations for Insteon devices?

My switch is a Insteon Keypad Dimmer switch, 6-Buttons, model 2334-222.
The label on the front reads: Rev. 7.0 2613.
The Quick Start Guide says this is a KeypadLinc Dimmer so I am confident I used the correct description from the Altsteon guide (Dimmer keypadlincs (urn:geektaco-info:device:dimmer-kpl:1)).

If someone could enlighten me that would be greatly appreciated.

If you are getting FF/FF, that means you haven’t linked the device to the PLM properly yet.
Did you link in both directions? Which version of Altsteon are you using, 0.8 or the development release?

If you are using the development release, from the cli, enter “plm link_new_device <DEVICE_ID>” and wait for 10-20 seconds. You should hear beeps and see “all linking completed” messages.

If you are running version 0.8, you will have to link manually. See “altsteon_instructions.txt”

I am using Altsteon version 0.8.
It seems I have not linked the KPL properly to the PLM. However I am currently struggling with the proper linking and have (factory) reset my PLM and started from scratch. I’m not there yet …

The confusion I have is as follows:

does it matter which way one links first? Making the KPL as a controller first or as a responder first?
also do I have to press a button on the KPL first before pushing the SET button?
Do I have to link each button on the KPL? Which way?
the Insteon instruction say pressing the set button until it double beeps. I assume this statement is wrong as I cannot get either KPL nor PLM to double beep :

Do you mean 'create' (the device) manually? Or am I missing something crucial here.

Ok. I managed to get the KPL main button and the 4 scene buttons linked to the PLM.
But for whatever reasons I cannot get the PLM to link to the KPL.
I press the PLM set button until it beeps. Then I press the On button on the KPL followed by the set button until latter beeps too. The Insteon instructions say to press it until it double beeps. However I keep pressing forever and no double beep. And using the just one beep I wait for a link until both units time out.
Where do I err?

MJ[/quote]On my non-dual-band dimmer KPL, the double beeps are very close together. Sounds like a single beep with a little stutter.

You can do a lot of this if you unplug your PLM from your Vera and plug it into th USB port on your PC you can then use the HouseLinc software which is free to link all the devices and see how everything is associated… And then discount it from your computer and reconnect it to your Vera…
