Kichler DesignPro LED Controller

I am a novice with a VeraEdge controller and just added new landscape lighting by Kichler which is controlled by their DesignPro LED Controller. The controller can act as a zWave controller so that you can 1) add multiple controllers and control very large/complex lighting installations; and 2) add zWave peripherals like mini-motes and motion detectors.

I have often struggled with the question of how do multi-controller networks work and interoperate since I’ve only got the one so I may not be doing this correctly. But what I did was add the controller to my existing network using “generic zWave device” and it loaded a single device and then grew to 6. It’s a 4-zone controller so I have two extra devices. I expected one based on my Fibaro RGBW controllers but this extra is weird and some odd behavior makes me wonder if I have this causing trouble because it’s a controller.

Anyone here have experience with these or something similar? I think I have 4-zones plus a master power and a master “all zone” like switch but would like to hear from another person with more experience. Also, the status is getting outdated. For example, I turn on path lights. Later I look at the app and it’s showing off but the lights are indeed on.

I am very interested in this topic. I I’m going to be adding some Landscape Lighting very soon and love to be able to control it through Vera.

Unfortunately I didn’t get any comments so I haven’t messed with this since posting. The lights work fine based on their own schedule so I am not taking advantage of the zWave integration. My suspicion is that the range isn’t strong enough. It’s sitting outside of an old brick wall so I think it would be better if I had closer proximity to another zWave node.

Just an FYI. Kichler has started promoting the Vera Plus and Edge on their site. I too have the design Pro so once I upgrade I’ll be seeing if it will work with the Edge. Landscape Lighting Accessories from Kichler | Kichler Lighting
