keychain remote used as panic button

I have Parkinson’s disease, and I would like to use Vera to call for my caregiver if I need assistance. That I use a keychain remote wit to turn a lamp on and off in her room? A Wayne Dalton keychain remote is about $30, but the user manual says how to use it with a Wayne Dalton gateway. Would it work with Vera?

Wayne Dalton remote is not a Z-Wave device and hence won’t work with Vera directly. It requires their gateway. See previous discussions:

I am using the WDHA-12R gateway with the buttons in my car to do just about what you’re asking about. So I suspect it CAN be made to work. I’m concerned about the range of the keyfob to the gateway. Remember, ZWAVE remotes can work through hops, but the keyfob transmission has to reach the gateway before it can trigger a scene.

If you centrally locate the gateway, it might work. You’ll want to make sure that you have WAY more than enough range as I expect battery condition may impact the keyfob range.

There is what seems to be a small zwave remote (TrickleStar 200ZW-US-W) but I can’t tell if it would meet your needs. It’s about the same price as the gateway, so it ‘might’ be an option for you.
