So I just bought a Vera Lite. I’ve been wanting one for a while and finally took the dive =). I have a lot of great ideas for this thing and have had college technical training on home integration and security. I need to make sure I’m understanding the security aspect and z-wave for a few products before I waste my money. Here’s what I have so far:
By “work” I mean zwave motion and open sensors will show in mios from the vera and integrate with the security system. For instance, I buy a motion - light - temparature sensor. I can use this to activate lights in the room when I walk in as long as the system is disarmed. In away mode the motion would be used for intrusion detection.
Which of these configurations gets the most bang for the buck and which config “just works” the best? Also, am I missing anything big and important? Are there any alternative configurations I am missing?
I just realized another question I should be asking. Will I be able to arm/disarm/monitor my system through vera via a mobile app if I go with either of these configs. I would like to stay away from Total Connect or any other 3rd party other than a monitoring service. I already have the networking part under control for outside access to anything on my network.
I’m starting to get the feeling that I have made the wrong assumptions since no one is replying. I have searched and searched but I still can’t find the definite answer to my question. I think in the end I’m going to do a z-wave security system with no monitoring (other than a text/e-mail alert.

Zwave seniors do not integrate with the alarm panel. The alarm panel once integrated into Vera will expose it’s sensors to Vera for status and use in scenes. Most of the third party apps will allow you to arm and disarm the panel.
The DSC is cheap and pretty well integrated and supported.
You’re right, I think at the time I posted this I had not done enough searching as I have found a lot of answers. I think you just answered what I really needed to know so let me make sure I understand you before I let this die :).
Instead of expecting to use z-wave sensors with the alarm panel, I should integrate the alarm panel + sensors into z-wave with the EVL-3 and the MiOS DSC plugin. Correct?

I apologize for being so dim about this but I am (in all practical sense) a total newb at this stuff. I think the last question I need to ask is this:
After the DSC panel and sensors are integrated into vera, does this mean I can use motion sensors from the security system to trigger lights and other things the same way I would use z wave products?
