Is Vera meant for the custom installer channel?

Vera was at the z-wave booth at CEDIA, but is it a custom installer/ integrator product or designed more for the DIY/ enthusiast? Both?

Any thoughts?

I’d say both.

Until further notice, I’d highly recommend the custom installer route to most of my friends. I know it’s getting better day by day, but this whole field of HA has a long way to go before it’s really ready for grandma to plug-n-play. Not everyone wants to spend their time playing around with this stuff.

The good thing about Vera, compared to typical “installer/integrator” products, is that it is very easy to expand a system as the budget allows. And as things get better (read: Luup gets out of beta) more folks will be able to carry on and grow their systems after you walk away. Otherwise, it seems like only the rich could consider “getting in bed” with a pro on whom they’d have to depend to maintain their system for the rest of their lives. But then, I’m an inveterate DIYer so maybe I’m not representing the majority.
