With the hope that Vera Plus will soon be released I am forced to re-evaluate the use of UI7.
Unlike the UI7 feedback provided on this forum I have been using UI5 without ANY problem for the past several years (so there has been little motivation to upgrade to UI7). However, with the potential of multiple protocols on Vera Plus I am now compelled to re-evaluate UI7.
I use Vera to manage remote rental property so the risk of failure is not an option. Also, several plugins previously supported in UI5 are not available on UI7. So several applications need to be re-written.
For those of you on UI5 what are your plans/thoughts?
I am on UI5, and desperate to upgrade. My Vera 3 is so slow, its unbearable, never found the reason why. The edge would not have been any improvement due to basically same old hardware, so I am putting my hopes on the Plus. I really hope for decent processor / memory, so I can stay with Vera. If that is not the case, I will have to move to a different platform, just to much grief from the other half, and I am getting fed up too with commands taking 30 seconds or more to execute…
So, I will also have to make the move to UI7, and I am not looking forward to it. I think most plugins I need work, and I think from what I have read UI7 is relatively stable, and at least its still being improved. For me PLEG and the Rfxtrx are vital, Vera Alerts, AutoVera and Global Cache are also a must. I guess it’ll be a few very painful days trying to migrate, as soon as I have the Plus specs and they are good, I will go through the forum here to get ideas of how best to migrate

My CPU load is between 60% and 80%, then things run mostly smooth. But quite often it goes up to 100% or even 120%. I do not have that many devices and plugins. It used to run fine, and 6 months ago things started going slow. I never found the culprit.
Available memory is normally 60000 or more
Hight CPU load can be caused by cameras … Vera is terrible with cameras … Better to attach Cameras to Blue Iris and have remotes get image from Blue Iris.
How many cameras do you have ?
How many remote Apps are looking at cameras all the time ?

Sorry to hijack slightly, but it may be helpful too:
If you connect your cameras to Blue Iris and then use the Blue Iris plugin, is it still just as demanding on the Vera as attaching the cameras directly to it?
Yes, it’s best if you do NOT display camera images continuously in a Remote app that gets the camera images from Vera
NOTE: The Vera Desktop is just another Remote app that runs in your browser.
You should look at the cameras by connecting to Blue Iris directly.
Note It’s not a problem if you do not normally have something looking at the images all the time …
But many people try to do live video feeds from Vera on remote tablets … that can add a LOT of load to Vera.

Hi Mikee –
FYI. I have three Vera 3s running UI5 (at two different locations). I have about 70-90 devices on each. Of these devices I have 6 - 10 cameras and one is an Ademco alarm plugged into the usb port. Except when doing a heal CPU is between .20 and .40. You’re CPU utilization really seems high!!
Yes I think it is high, I have between 70 and 80 devices, 3 cameras (2 HD and 1 SD). I had it all on a Vera Lite before and it was working ok ish. It was better after the upgrade, but then without doing much to my system as it was running ok and did not add much, after a few months it started with delaying commands. Nowadays I’ve got good days and bad days… some days its working fine, other days its driving me insane. I have 5 PLEGS with a fair bit of logic, but again, I’ve had that when it was running fineWhen tings started to go wrong, I had up to 20 or 25 restarts a day, and never found the reason. I havent changed anything, and now I get 2 or 3 a day (which is fairly normal I think).
It is all quite strange. I just hope going to a new and more powerful system and UI7 it all might work better…
No I haven’t looked at logs, to be honest I had given up, putting all my hopes on new hardware. In the meantime I am trying to live with it as good as I can… I will try and look at the logs, and post them in a new thread if there is anything. I remember I did look at logs when the problems first started, and did post some logs on here but never got any response or insight of what is causing the problems. I’ll have a look to see if I can find the thread
My Vera Edge with UI7 is (finally) running better than my Vera Lite with UI5 ever did. It wasn’t an easy road, but it has been stable for several months now (I haven’t upgraded the firmware in the last couple of months).
Now that a year has past, has your opinion changed concerning UI7? Would you run it in your own house? Please understand that I am not looking for a “perfect product”. I think the OP and myself are wondering if it has improved over time. Have they fixed issues with device compatibility (I couldn’t even control my thermostat with UI7 while UI5 worked perfectly). Have they added new devices that work as intended? Is the UI stable? Does PLEG work in UI7 just as well as it does in UI5?
I assume you work with all of the firmware versions to maintain your plugins. This makes you an expert on the subject and I am interested in your opinion.
Don - I am running 1.7.1248 on my Edge. I’m not saying there’s anything wrong with the latest updates, but mine has been stable since I upgraded to 1248 so I haven’t seen a reason to mess with it. I have 80-100 devices on my Edge (including virtual devices). About 40 of those are actual zwave devices (primarily leviton dimmers and switches, ge and leviton appliance modules, a homeseer motion detector, and some other gadgets). I had some major issues initially with my leviton devices in the early Vera Edge firmware, but those seem to have been ironed out and everything is working well now.
I just installed my old Vera Lite at our lake house and upgraded it from UI5 to 1.7.690. That seems to be working fine too, although I only have 1 device setup so far there
