Hi everyone, I want to control a door lock in a condo but I can’t replace the lock as it all has to look the same from outside. so is there a module that I can put on the lock to open and close it?
Thanks

No, you would have to replace the lock.
Thanks for feedback. I am surprised that there isn’t a controller for locks. Then how do people in condos do it?
What kind of lock is there already? Do you have a deadbolt? You might be able to use just the inside of a Z-Wave deadbolt if things line up.
Thanks for the feedback. I believe it’s a deadbolt (sorry not too familiar with terms). Here are the pics:

Do you have any suggestion for the kind of Z-Wave you mentioned?
Thanks
snowhite, you have a deadbolt. What PurdueGuy is referring to is that there’s been some discussion with respect to using only the inside half of a motorized zwave deadbolt for people who don’t want the keypad. Users on this forum have reported this works just fine. However, in cases I’ve heard people used the same manufacturer for the inside and outside halves. I can’t make out the manufacturer of your unit, so I’m not sure if I can make a useful suggestion–but I’m aware of Yale, Schlage and Kwikset deadbolts.
Perhaps the Poly Lock / the gear by Poly Control is of interest (only in Europe though, for the moment, I believe. Looks like you’re in North America.).
snowwhite might be able to go the route as other suggested. Use a kwikset deadbolt and pair it with a kwikset outer deadbolt to match the brass color. This should work as the deadbolt pieces are similar.
Thanks everyone for the input.
Found the MFR, this is a Weiser Lock
SM2k: So, what you are suggesting will require to use new set of keys right?
oTi@: I am exploring the poly lock. - I thought there is a z-wave like this around: https://lockitron.com/
garrettwp: So, basically buy a whole lock set and use only deadbolt if it works but if it doesn’t then the add the outside pair as well (it might look a bit different in color but it won’t use keypad or any other outstanding peices). Do I get you right?
Thanks a lot for all the patience guys.
Also, are all these locks battery powered?
snowhite: I don’t think you’ll need a new set of keys. Both garretwp and I are suggesting the same thing I think.
There are basically three major regions of the deadbolt assembly. the bolt, the outer half where you would put a key, and the inner half.
The first thing you should try is to procure just one motorized zwave deadbolt. the kwikset that garettwp mentioned would be a good choice. The only region you will need is the interior assembly. If the lock mechanism lines up, you simply need to replace the interior region. There’s a decent chance this will work.
If it does not, the next thing you should try is to procure a standard brass kwikset deadbolt–with an exterior portion that matches your existing exterior as closely as possible. This piece does not need to be a zwave model. The reason you’ll need this second bolt is because I’m not aware of any zwave models that come without a keypad. You should then be able to use the outside assembly and bolt from the standard kwikset lock which will line up with the interior assembly from the zwave lock.
The second step is virtually guaranteed to work. I mixed pieces from an old kwikset lock with my zwave deadbolt on my front door. Also if you have to resort to procuring a new exterior piece, kwikset is a good choice because you can re-key it to use your original keys.
All zwave deadbolts that I’m aware of are battery powered.
Also, pay attention to your region. US and Europe use different freqs so items intended for one region don’t play nice with items for the other.
Hope that helps!
Thanks SM2k. Your explanation was very helpful. I should have asked about different parts of the lock earlier.
Thanks everyone. I will report back once project is done.
