Is SMS required?

I have an Samsung Galaxy S4 Android Smartphone but have SMS turned off at Verizon. I’ve gotten by with other free apps without needing SMS so far. Can I use email or an app to get notifications, or is SMS required?

Sorry for the noob question, I’m researching which home automation to buy.

SMS is not required. In fact, you have to set things up if you want to use SMS for alerts. You can easily set it up to only email. Or not have any alerts at all (I did not for years).

As was said no sms is needed. I actually prefer to get push notifications vs. Email or sms. They are more oginized and dont clutter my inboxes with a buch of jibberish.

So do the “push notifications” just appear on android thru the Vera Mobile UI7?

No vera mobile is very limited and not customizable. There are other apps for vera made by 3rd party that have this feature and there is apps like “VERA Alerts” that allow this.
