No… You need to exclude things first then delete the device from the UI.
Hate to sound dumb, but how? Once I activate the exclude mode in Vera what do I do to the device to actually exclude it? just turn on/off?
No dumb questions…
Depends on the device but yes, normally whatever you do to include it just do that. For most (if not all) light switches just turn it on or off while Vera is blinking fast in exclude mode.
If your question is dumb, then I’m really dumb because it took me a couple of weeks to figure out how to exclude. It’s right there in your Quickstart Guide…oh, wait…there’s not one of those. If you happen to know what search term to use, you might stumble across it in the official documentation: http://docs5.mios.com/doc.php?language=1&manual=1&platform=2&page=include_mode
You can also do it through software, where it is - logically - under Add Devices. Specifically, DEVICES tab, the Add Devices, and the bottom half of the screen, change the first drop-down from Include to Exclude.
Not too much different from Windows where you have to press “Start” to be able to Shut Down.
Hmm, I did not know this.
I’ve been using Vera2/UI4 for over a year and have NEVER used exclude. I always delete using the trash can. I have not noticed any issues.
If you do not use exclude, the device still thinks it is part of your network. The device cannot be included to any other network until it is excluded. Note that excludes do not have to be done within the original network.
In addition to @wscannell’s comment, if you delete a Z-Wave device that is still present on the network, the Z-Wave chip will actually deny the forced delete AFAIK, and the device will pop back up after Vera restarts and rescans the network information in the chip.

Thank you. It’s amazing how poorly documented some of the basics are.

Well to be fair if you are on UI5 then it does have a link on the front page that walks you through this and provides a fair starting point. This is the link that says Read Getting Started guide.. I will say it isn’t as big and noticeable as it could be though.

You’re right that there is something called Getting Started Guide, but where does it “walks you through this” ? Try the link for Guided Features Walkthroughs. Anything there? Nope. About the time I started, the search function for docs5 didn’t even work (see thread). Everything I learned was from this forum.
Puleez…the getting started guide is so lame…
Everything I learned was from this forum.
I’ll amend that by saying, everything I learned was by using google to search this forum…

Actually it does spell out inclusion and exclusion (if that is what you are referring to) Including and Excluding
Don’t get me wrong the documentation has a long way to go… As I said it was a fair beginning. Just pointing folks to where the documentation is and to give MCV some credit for putting what documentation that exists on the front page.

I saw that page and it was not clear as to what to do on the actual device in order to exclude. Further, why put a trashcan on each item if this doesn’t do what it looks like? If you think of bluetooth for example, when you pair it its paired - when you delete it its gone…
On the instructions in order to exclude, you need to hold the button for 3 seconds. You know you can start excluding when the light is blinking rapidly (on the vera), while this is happening, you may run around you room pressing modules/device buttons to exclude them out of your network.
After you have pressed a module button (besides the vera), the vera system will blink for about 2 seconds to confirm that you successfully excluded them out of your network.
This process is almost the same as including devices into your vera z-wave network, but you hold the vera system button for 3 seconds.
Include LED: blinks slowly
Exclude LED: blinks rapidly
These LED show what mode the Vera is in.
I hope this helps you. The way to exclude and include devices are generally the same for most gateway/controller devices.
I have a device that is evidently still included in Vera, although I followed the exclude procedure & received confirmation from Vera’s LED that it was removed.
It does not appear as a visible module in the UI, however, it does appear in my list of devices for configuring an event (see #2 _Scene Controller)
Is there any way to delete this device from within Vera, even though it doesn’t appear as a module in the interface?
That’s Vera herself (at NodeID ([tt]ID[/tt]/[tt]altid[/tt]) 1).
That device is part of Vera and can not be removed. That is why it is hidden.
Ah ha! Good, thank you. I thought it was a separate device.
